    3. Dear Problem Solvers, This has never happened to me before. I'm working in Word 2003. I attempted to type Valentin Öhm, and the umlaut O simply will not appear. It appears elsewhere in the doc, where I used Alt + 0214 = Ö (Capital O). I closed and reopened the doc; no. Then I rebooted my computer, still no. I'm using Courier New, 11 pt. bold throughout the doc, with a few words 9 pt. Where the same name is elsewhere in the doc, it is just fine. I just realized that when I use Find, Word won't find Oehm, which I typed in place of what I need. It finds Valentin and any other words I ask for. There must be something amiss on that line?? I typed the name on another line and tried pasting it in, and it give me just an O, not the umlaut. I just discovered that print preview shows the umlaut... Any ideas? I can attach the doc and send it to someone who would like to see what I'm up against. Lila

    3. I suspect the file may be corrupted, that is, that there's a "bad spot" in it. What I would try, first, is to delete the entire offending sentence -- at least five or ten words on either side of the one not working. Then save the file and re-open it, and re-enter what you deleted. Worth a try... You can send me the file, too, if you want. I have Word 2003. Dina > This has never happened to me before.
