It does nothing, until you run it. Even then, there is NO problem with it being on the desktop, it will probably send it's install files to a temp folder before actually installing the drivers. I have NO IDEA why MS thinks your desktop should be clear of ALL things, but it's what they try to make you do. I DL ALL files to my desktop, which they share with many shortcuts. Once I decide if I need to keep a file, I'll either install it and delete it, or I'll install then move the file to a safer place.
