Hi List, I'm trying to get a more-or-less permanent email address to attach to my 'Interests' in FHS journals. So far, two of the ISPs I used to use for dialup access have gone bust, and left me with a lot of people to inform re address changes. Now that I have broadband access I would like something more permanent, that isn't tied to any one ISP. Can any list member advise: 1. How do Hotmail & Gmail compare? 2. Are there any other options? 3. I understand that I can use POP and Outlook Express with Gmail; does that work with Hotmail too? 4. How do I get a Gmail address? Going to www.google.co.uk, then to the Mail tab seems to lead to being offered an address of the type joebloggs@googlemail.com. Is there a different route to get to joebloggs@gmail.com? Regards, John
I dropped Hotmail when I started having problems with it and IE -- the ones I sent 'disappeared'. into a black hole in the internet. I now use Yahoo with few problems. There are others also, not attached to ISPs. In the beginning gmail had problems, but I think they have been resolved - I don't use them. John Something different. I have "Email for Life" from the Alumni Association of a university. I registered with them & picked a "user name" @tulanealumni.net. Everytime I change my "main" email address I notify them and in a couple of weeks my mail from mostly classmates & former students come to the new address. I use it as a secondary "permanent" address so people knew they could reach me through it. It had been my primary address but the mail forwarding computer was down for six weeks after Hurricane Katrina & I never started switching people back. Sometime there is an extra half hour delay for mail to arrive. But, for the rest of my life I will be able to get email as paulleblanc@tulanealumni.net . It might be worth looking into.
