The best way to insure that you have a permanent, unchanging email address is to get your own domain name. I own danishdemes.org, and it will be an unchanging email address and web site domain, regardless of my ISP or web host, as long as I keep up my payments for it. Hotmail and Gmail are independent of your ISP, but you are not independent of them. No company is immune to failure, so either one could go belly-up, sooner or later. I don't like "free" email accounts because they usually come encumbered with advertising, and I hate getting email with advertising in it. My reaction to such email is irritation at the person who is too cheap to get a paying account and is inconsiderate for spamming me. If you're trying to impress someone, it isn't the way to go. Bottom line: a permanent address is possible, but it will cost you some maintenance.
