Actually, just to clarify, Nivard was referring to LEFT of the "Notification Area" not LEFT of the entire Task Bar.  The "Notification Area" is on the right side of the Task Bar, near the Clock. The ICONS in this area are quite often hidden, due to space constraints, and are made visible by clicking on the '<' Arrow.
