    3. My Eee has been converted from Linux to Windows XP (it seemed like a good idea at the time) which means the very small memory is choking. I've just found that Internet Explorer is loaded. Since I never use it, so can I delete it? It doesn't show up in the Add/Delete Programs though. I think there are a lot of things like this - just not explored far enough yet. Robyn

    3. Morning Robyn It is an old story ... IE has always been 'fully integrated' [read welded in] with the Windows OS. That is what fired up the EU because it was clearly anti-competitive [and they finded $Soft mega $] Supposedly $Soft has sort of made it somehow semi-detached. However if you try to remove it from a version of XP I would expect XP to go bottom-up. Best option I would guess is to re-install Linux. You can try out Obuntu on a Live disc on your desktop and play with it until you are comfortable ... WITHOUT affecting your existing Windows set up in any way. You can also then install it from the same disc if you want to. 3. Thanks Ike, I rather suspected that was the case. I am tempted to go back to Linux, but would need some clear time to get my head around it. I ran it on my desktop PC for a while after XP crashed last year, but did find it a bit complex and reverted to a new installation of XP. Cheers, Robyn Ike Dawson wrote: > Morning Robyn > > It is an old story ... IE has always been 'fully integrated' [read > welded in] with the Windows OS. 3. I too have a problem with internet explorer which is very frustrating. Mine is that it will suddenly close without warning and I lose everything I'd been looking at. I don't get any error messages at all. I'm running Vista. Perhaps I should change to Firefox which was suggested, but I would be interested to know why this is happening. Lee

    3. It could be many things, Lee. What version of IE are you using? Have you recently updated IE to a newer version? Try reinstalling or repairing IE... (Instructions here from Microsoft for IE7 & IE8) http://support.microsoft.com/kb/318378 Are you running an Anti-Virus software? Try doing a complete system scan to see if there is anything lurking in your system. Are you using a Firewall? (if not, install now... even if it is the MS Firewall) I would suggest that you download and install Firefox and see if you have a better browsing experience. Regards, Kevin. 3. Hi Lee Food for thought re your loss when IE crashes I have been using Firefox for a little while due to the speed of loading problems I was having with IE I find that FF is quite unstable by comparison to IE and crashes far more however FF does save the sites you were viewing at the time it crashes so its not all bad, on restarting FF you are offered the option of reopening the previous windows or a new one To qualify what I mean by *crashes frequently* compared to IE, I rarely ever had a crash with IE, perhaps 3 or 4 times a year (I can't say I kept a record) with FF its more like once a week I currently use FF with XP Best wishes Nivard Ovington, in Cornwall (UK) > I would suggest that you download and install Firefox and see if you > have a better browsing experience. > > > Regards, > Kevin. > > > On Sun, May 3, 2009 at 8:13 PM, Lee Haley <mlhaley@nor.com.au> wrote: >> I too have a problem with internet explorer which is very frustrating. >> >> Mine is that it will suddenly close without warning and I lose everything >> I'd been looking at. 3. In my experience, Firefox only crashes on the Ancestry site and it seems to happen when I try to back page too quickly. The fact that it saves where I was when it does crash is a great feature.
