    3. Suddenly I am getting about 100 spam emails per day and rising. If I was to create a new email address like p8*6&t^f£@etc.com would that prevent spam, reduce it a little or make no difference in the long term? At present 99% of it goes directly into the spam folder but unfortunatley so do some genuine emails so I still have to check them all. I would appreciate some advice please. Peter

    3. Peter I would suggest that you get MailWasher. You can look at all you mail from the server prior to downloading. i.e. you don't have to go separate folder to check for spam. You can also create a "Friends" list, the mail from which goes directly to your email program. With respect to changing your email address, I did this several years ago. I was relatively spam free for several months but the more I used my address the more spam you I eventually received. The complexity of the address will have not an effect on this Bob Wilson ----- Original Message ----- From: "Peter Metcalfe" <Peter-redfern@runbox.com> To: <computers@rootsweb.com> Sent: Tuesday, May 05, 2009 12:53 AM Subject: [COMPUTERS] Spam Suddenly I am getting about 100 spam emails per day and rising. 3. You have posted you address some where or it was harvested from some email that that was sent whit all of the addresses in the header. There is NOT much one can do, but wait for the rush to settle down. If you don not respond to any of them, the mailer will drop you from the list. 3. Hi Peter In truth you will never stop spam however I believe there is a huge difference between the various email clients I get very few spam to my inbox using sky (which is actually gmail) I check periodically to see if any wanted mail is misdirected to the spam folder but there rarely is I also have a completely separate gmail address which I have had for a few years but used only once to send from, yet get more spam on that address than the one I use every day One thing I would advise is not to use any of the spamfighter type of filtering systems, they are totally incompatible with mailing lists and in effect stop the very mail you want to receive getting to you, I don't know anyone in their right mind who would reply to the confirmation emails which is a necessary part of this kind of filtering software Best wishes Nivard Ovington, in Cornwall (UK) Suddenly I am getting about 100 spam emails per day and rising. 3. I have a Hotmail email address which I have had for a few years which I rarely use to send messages and get just a half dozen or so spams per week so it would appear the more you use an email address the more spam you get. I was just hoping that an unusual address that I mentioned previously would help to reduce it. Thanks Peter
