Hi, I'm trying to clear space on my tiny Eee laptop. There's a file sitting on the desktop called 950116.sgml which I'd like to delete if possible, but I have no idea what it is or where it came from. I can't open it to see what it is. It's only 392KB, but on an Eee every bit/byte is important. Any clues on how I can find out if I need it?
Have you tried to Clean Up temp files using CCleaner? http://www.ccleaner.com/ Quite often you can gain a significant amount of space ! As well, if you don't use the Hibernate feature, you can try turning it off and eliminate a LARGE file ! http://lifehacker.com/software/optimization/save-disk-space-turn-off-hibernate-031740.php Regards, Kevin. Thanks for this advice Kevin. I've run CCleaner now on both my computers and have recovered quite a bit of space - obviously a good idea to do this routinely. The Eee is still woefully overloaded, but I have a little bit of elbow space now to work on it and move stuff I don't need elsewhere. I've never looked at the hibernate option before, but the fellow who installed XP on the Eee had already disabled it, so that isn't going to help me now. However I've applied it to the desktop model. If anyone wants to investigate the pros and cons of hibernate / standby features for XP computers, and power usage, there's a good explanation, with instructions, at this site. http://www.timeatlas.com/mos/Term_to_Learn/General/Understanding_Differences_Between_Hibernate_and_Stand_By/ Cheers, Robyn Kevin Ross wrote: > Have you tried to Clean Up temp files using CCleaner? > http://www.ccleaner.com/ > > Quite often you can gain a significant amount of space ! > > As well, if you don't use the Hibernate feature, you can try turning > it off and eliminate a LARGE file ! > http://lifehacker.com/software/optimization/save-disk-space-turn-off-hibernate-031740.php > > Regards, > Kevin. > > > On Fri, May 1, 2009 at 9:09 PM, Robyn Waymouth <waymouth@ihug.com.au> wrote: > >> Hi, >> >> I'm trying to clear space on my tiny Eee laptop.
