Hi Judith, This is an Archived Web Page (notice that the file have of the page has an extension of MHT) in Microsoft proprietary format. The file (URL) can only be opened using Microsoft Internet Explorer. The web page was built with Microsoft Excel. You could do the same if you have Microsoft Excel installed on your computer. You "simply" need to create Text Boxes, Enter the appropriate text into the box, place the box on the page and create lines connecting the boxes. I can only see this as a painstaking process !!! FYI... You can always see the content of a web page by following the menu path View >> Source in Internet Explorer or View >> Page Source in Firefox. For this particular page, the Source had the following lines at the top... <html xmlns:v="urn:schemas-microsoft-com:vml" xmlns:o="urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" xmlns:x="urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:excel" xmlns="http://www.w3.org/TR/REC-html40"> Regards, Kevin. It is painstaking, but I get a result that I'm very pleased with, and can't possibly be dissatisfied with what some propriety comany thinks I need. I don't actually have boxes, but I have a very clear diagramatic view of families and generations. Maybe I'm just crazy?
Hi Robyn, Not crazy at all. I use Family Tree Maker which I like as it does the work for me, but if you do a better job than the commercial products, at the end of the day it is whatever works for you isn't it? Thanks Kevin, I am a little lost on the source info but from what you say the chart was created in Exel rather than a genealogy program. It is accademic really, as I have now manually copied the information, but as I have Exel [2007] for future reference do you know if there is a way to import the chart so that the hyperlinks are retained?
