It appears that it's somewhat difficult to use plain text with many web-based email programs, and particularly difficult with Hotmail. The instructions given by RootsWeb's Help Desk are at <http://helpdesk.rootsweb.com/listadmins/plaintext.html> and those for Hotmail sound pretty confusing to me. Perhaps someone on the list knows a better way to set Hotmail to plain text and keep it there. Google mail will not let a user set the default to plain text and it can be hard to remember to toggle the formatting, but at least it's easy to do. Best wishes, Lynne

    3. Thanks for the Help Desk reference, which I printed. It refers to a "Tools menu" which I can't find, and the other instructions are much more complicated probably because Hotmail has changed its format since the instructions were written. Actually, there's a Plain Text option at the top which I clicked on, and that was all that was necessary. Unless, of course, jumping faces or advertising in HTML are added at the end of this... I've been using Rich Text for all messages with no problem except the Thank You, and I suspect that there was some kind of ad at the bottom.
