I did watch the video that was suggested, but a right click on the WordPad document does not bring up a menu with the OPEN WITH listing. Any other ideas?? Thank you, Kathleen Rizer Kathleen, I agree with Kevin that I think it is probably a file association problem. It sounds like for some reason when you doubleclick on your Word File, it thinks it is supposed to open that file with WordPad (probably because it has somehow become "associated" with the WordPad program). 1. In Windows Explorer, if you open the folder that contains ONE of these files that are opening with the WordPad program, 2. highlight that file by clicking once on it, then left click on TOOLS at the menu across the top of the window, 3. then click on FOLDER OPTIONS, 4. NOW click on the TAB that says FILE TYPES, once the list populates, scroll down until you find RTF - Rich Text Format, 5. highlight RTF - Rich Text Format and then look below where it says OPENS WITH, that should say OPENS WITH Microsoft Office Word. If it does NOT say Microsoft Office Word, then you will need to CHANGE it by a. clicking on the CHANGE button, b. then you have to scroll or browse until you find the Microsoft Office Word program and c. left click on it, make sure the little box (towards the bottom) that says "ALWAYS USE THE SELECTED PROGRAM TO OPEN THIS FILE TYPE" is checked. d. Then left click on OK - Now, go and try to open one of those files and see if Microsoft Office Word opens it for you. Hope this helps. This should take care of the problem. But be cautious about changing file type associations. Don't do it unless you're sure about what you're doing. AND ... if this doesn't work for you, the only other thing I can think of is to open each file and do a SAVE AS and change the file type to .doc a word document. The documents that WordPad opens usually are .RTF file types. .... Carolyn a/k/a Molly6374

    3. Hi Carolyn, Are you in Windows Explorer and right-clicking on the ?????.DOC file name ? And there is no option "Open With..." ? OK. Procedure: Open Windows Explorer to change the "File Associations"... 1. Menu Path: Tools>Folder Options>File Types (Opens a box entitled "Folder Options") 2. Scroll down to DOC, select it by Clicking ONCE on the DOC extension. 3. In the bottom half of the box, under "Details for "DOC" extension, it will tell you what the default program is to open DOC files In your case, this will probably be WordPad. 4. Click on the Change button. 5. Find the MS Word Program in the list or, if it is not there, you may have to click on the Browse button to search for it... (MS Word is usually installed in a location like this... C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\OFFICE11) 6. Once found, select Microsoft Office Word to be your default program for DOC files (MAKE SURE you select the box entitled "Always use the selected program to open this kind of file") 7. Close the Folder Options Box. You could also follow these steps to change the File Association of RTF files, if need be. Hope this helps ! Regards, Kevin.
