I have xp home and updated yesterday. I keep showing I need to update and when I do it seems that it is B956572 I download and it finally says finished and I click that thinking I am done and then the shield shows an update is ready it is the same one so I tried again and the same thing. It looks like it has downloaded and then says finished and so on.. Is any one else having a problem with the last update? Or could it be something else I might need to do? Thanks, Barbara
Hi Barbara, Good ol' Microsoft does it again !!! Looks like you are not the only one with this problem... At this link, someone is describing the same problem and had to call Microsoft to have them resolve the issue with 6-8 changes to his computer... http://groups.google.com/group/microsoft.public.windowsupdate/browse_thread/thread/fd463b571158ee3e?hide_quotes=no&pli=1 --------------------------------------------- MS09-012: Description of the security update for Windows Service Isolation: April 2009 http://support.microsoft.com/kb/956572 --------------------------------------------- It seems that you will need to call them to get help, unless they issue a software fix ! How to obtain help and support for this security update For home users, no-charge support is available by calling 1-866-PCSAFETY in the United States and Canada or by contacting your local Microsoft subsidiary. For more information about how to contact your local Microsoft subsidiary for support issues with security updates, visit the Microsoft International Support Web site: http://support.microsoft.com/common/international.aspx?rdpath=4 (http://support.microsoft.com/common/international.aspx?rdpath=4) North American customers can also obtain instant access to unlimited no-charge e-mail support or to unlimited individual chat support by visiting the following Microsoft Web site: http://support.microsoft.com/oas/default.aspx?&prid=7552 (http://support.microsoft.com/oas/default.aspx?&prid=7552) For enterprise customers, support for security updates is available through your usual support contacts. I think there are some incorrect files/settings in Barbara's system. A user documented their call to Microsoft here (see the post on Apr 16, 9:29 pm)... http://groups.google.com/group/microsoft.public.windowsupdate/browse_thread/thread/fd463b571158ee3e?hide_quotes=no&pli=1 -------- Microsoft made some changes to file names in the System32 folder, then had me reboot. Then they uninstalled the update and had me reboot. Then they made some more changes in the Sytem32 folder, downloaded and ran the update manually, and had me reboot. At this point, Windows Update was able to detect that the update was done and it stopped offering me the update. I guess Microsoft made 6 - 8 changes overall (not 20 as I previously stated) but I couldn't keep track of what they were doing. I know they did not directly edit the registry. It seemed to be a known problem and their support script was very precise. -------- On Fri, Apr 17, 2009 at 2:42 AM, Robert Wilson <robowil@earthlink.net> wrote: > Barbara > > Have you tried downloading it from the website?
