Try the "NUM LK" key. This will turn on and off the Number key pad that is built into the laptop keyboard. Bea, What is the make and model of your laptop?  Since the laptop is new, was there not any documentation about the "special keys" and how to use them properly?  If you don't have documentation, we may be able to find it for you, based on the model information.
