In the Format Cells Menu, the name is shown as it should be in the Sample but still remains as column/row numbers in the formula bar. Anne -- Anne PICKETTS Waipu, NZ

    3. Hi Anne, I must admit, I have lost focus of what your issue is. I would really like to get a resolution to your problem, as I have a user here at work, that has formatting issues as well. Please explain what result you are trying to obtain and what, exactly you are receiving right now. I have tried formatted my resultant cell (C1) in numerous ways, but I cannot "break" it and get what I believe are your results !!! I would really appreciate if you could answer this OR, if you have solved your issues... how you solved it !!! (FYI... my issue involves a user who imports a file from an outside system. Her MS Excel does not recognize the data as numeric whereas my MS Excel does... it is something in the settings !!!) Regards, Kevin. 3. The formula bar above the table (in the toolbar) will always contain the formula, not the result of the formula. Only the table cells will contain the result (the concatenated names). I'm afraid I don't know what you mean by the "Sample." Allow me to walk through this step-by-step... Create the new column. Right-click the header cell of the new column. Choose Format Cells... On the Number tab, choose either General or Text and click OK. Select (left-click) the top cell in the column. Enter the formula to concatenate the two strings (assuming here given name is in column B and the surname is in column C and the first row is row 2): =B2&" "&C2 and hit Enter. When you hit Enter, the formula should disappear and the concatenated name should appear in its place. Now when you Select (left-click) this cell, the formula will appear in the Insert Function field in the toolbar, but the result of the formula should appear in the cell. To enter the same formula in the rest of the cells, right-click on the cell you've filled and choose Copy. Then left-click on each cell in the column and hit Ctrl-V to copy the formula into the cell. The cell designations in the formula will adjust to the row it's in. There may be a way to add the formula to all the rest of the cells in the column in one operation. If someone knows how, please share.
