    1. [COMPUTERS] USB hub question
    2. Jo Cox
    3. I bought a USB hub that I can plug 4 USB plugs into. When I plug a device into it, I get this box popping up. "This USB device can perform fater if you connect it to a Hi-SPEED USB 2.0 port For a list of available ports click here" When I do that, I get "the USB mass storage device is a Hi-SPEED USB device and will function at reduced speed when plugged into a non Hi-sSPEED port." "the hubs shown in bold type have free ports that can support the HI-SPEED USB device" Then below that it shows: USB root hub (8 ports) then below that it shows 8 lines that say "unused port" My question, HOW CAN I TELL WHICH PORT ON THE BACK IS THE HIGH SPEED ONE? I DO NOT SEE ANYTHING WITH 8 PORTS. I tried plugging my hub into other places and I still get the same message when I plug anything into it. Please keep it as simple as possible as I am not very computer literate. Thanks, Jo

    3. What device are you plugging into this hub? It may be a USB 1 device, or the hub is a USB 1 type, or even the hub is plugged into a USB 1 socket on the computer. 3. I am plugging in a 4 gig sandisk finger drive? or flash drive? >From the way the computer reads I think it is telling me I have it plugged into a USB 1 socket. But I understand that I am being told that I have USB 2.0 available. How can I find out if that is the case and if so, which one is it on the back of the computer? 3. If the port you are plugged into is not a high speed port (i.e. USB 2.0) then you probably don't have any high speed ports, which is my case. All my USB ports are USB 1.1. In my case I get the same message you get with my new printer. Just ignore it. As it says, devices will function, just at lower speeds. 1. [COMPUTERS] AP Halt at Bios
    2. Ike Dawson
    3. Good morning All My grandson has XP Pro. Yesterday the machine stopped at the BIOS each time he tried to start it. His Mum tried the option 'Last Good Start' which also failed. His Dad said 'Start in Safe Mode: shut down: Restart normally and all will be well. It's a well known problem with XP'. Sure enough it worked. I'd not heard of this 'Well known problem': can anyone enlighten me? Yours aye Ike
