Hi Nivard. I think that my subscribtion has run out. Due to my age, I wasn't using it very much any more anymore. I will just let it go for now. Thanks to all for the help and suggestions. if you go to the library, usually they have a faster setup and you can probably go to the familysearch.org site there. Anyway, keep in mind if you need something, keep my email address, and I'll take a look. I have the full subscription in ancestry, and if all else fails, I'm only about 20 miles away from the huge library that the LDS use, in Salt Lake City, and go there about 1-2 times a year when I get good weather and am in the mood to sit there all day and do research. You can access what they have available through familysearch, and if you find something in a book or on a film that hasn't been transcribed, let me know and I'll take a look on my next trip. myra
Don't forget that familysearch.org is free and has a lot of stuff that isn't on ancestry as well. myra
If you need stuff looked up, just let me know. I can find, copy and email you what you need/want. We all need to share, huh? I have ancestry.com here and it's working fine. It sounds like maybe you're getting the free versions of what they offer, and nothing else. Check with what they are saying you have for your subscription. That may have been changed, leaving you with nothing more than the public version of free stuff. myra
Thanks again, Bud. Thanks Bud, I didn't see any toolbar addons. What you mean by doing a custom install? I don't remember ever seeing an installation where I could see what was being done......Bobbie > From: budscan@gmail.com > To: computers@rootsweb.com > Date: Thu, 26 Dec 2013 17:11:13 -0800 > Subject: Re: [COMPUTERS] Unwanted Search Bars > > ----- Original Message ----- > From: "Bobbie Smith" <bccsmith@hotmail.com> > To: <gen-newbie@rootsweb.com>; <computers@rootsweb.com> > Sent: Thursday, December 26, 2013 4:56 PM > Subject: [COMPUTERS] Unwanted Search Bars > > > >I have gotten two search bars lately, and I don't know where they came > >from unless it was included in something I downloaded. > > They almost certainly were in a download. > > You need to do a 'custom' install on ANYTHING, because even reputable > (mostly) > companies are putting crapware in their programs to make more money. > > Watch the install CLOSELY, and uncheck any toolbar addons. \
I have gotten two search bars lately, and I don't know where they came from unless it was included in something I downloaded. The AVG search bar pops up when I go to Chrome, I could find no way to uninstall it, as it does not show up in Control Panel > Add Remove Programs, it does not show up in Revo-Unstaller. . it has been there for about a month and I have learned to live with it. Yesterday I started to download TeraCopy for copying files as reccomended by Kim Kamondo, the download went well for a while then became slow and jerky so I canceled it. I didn't get the TeraCopy but I got 4 new shortcuts on my desk top, and a new search bar called start.mysearchdial.com , which thankfully WOT an extension on Chrome will block, but it does not show up in Add Remove or Revo-unInstaller either, every thing I have searched for says that is the way to get rid of it but you can't if it isn't there. I scanned with Malwarebytes and got 28 hits all were POP Pup or something like that and they were removed, I then ran CCleaner, then scanned with Trend Micro Titanium and got zero infected files etc I managed to find and delete 3 of the programs from the short cuts on my desk top but one "Free Games" is still there (it is not found in add remove either) click on it and it comes up My Search Dial Games with a selection of 6 game pictures and when you hover the mouse over them they say 'Download Now" so I am assuming they can't cause a problem since I don't plan to download them. Should I deleted the shortcut? Or let it stay? Or is there another way to get rid of that? I am using a Windows 7 64bit Dell Laptop, Another thing that happened is that I have never set a default home page, when I open Internet explorer MSN home page comes up, when I open Chrome Google page comes up. Now with this incident Google Chrome has been made my default home page and is on IE too. I don't know if to restore to before yesteerday would help or if it would just unleash what I have already gotten rid of. Any advice would be appreciated I am not very computer savy and answers would have to be simple but I am beginning to think simple will not fix this. But as of right now every scan I run shows all is ok. I don't have a Spyware downloaded but I think it is included in Trend Micro Titanium. 1. AVG search bar 2. Startmysearchdial search bar 3. FREE Games 4. Go back to no default so IE is MSN and Chrome is Google 5.Restore to previous day? Bobbie

Make sure you don't accept the default, look for 'custom install, it should always be there somewhere. Then, look at each step, and uncheck anything that looks like it's not part of the program you want, like toolbars and other stuff. If you're not sure, ask here, with the specific thing you're trying to install, and one of us will usually be able to test it and let you know for sure. --- This email is free from viruses and malware because avast! They almost certainly were in a download. You need to do a 'custom' install on ANYTHING, because even reputable (mostly) companies are putting crapware in their programs to make more money. Watch the install CLOSELY, and uncheck any toolbar addons. --- This email is free from viruses and malware because avast! Antivirus protection is active. http://www.avast.com

Hi Robert It depends on your browser but check the help file for :- clearing temporary internet files (I use Firefox and there is a good help file for the subject) Or download and use Ccleaner (its free) Straight out of the box (so to speak) and run it will scan for and report OR delete temp internet files and cookies NB you can run a scan (Ccleaner calls it Analyze) without deleting anything Each time you visit any site you will replenish the latest cookie anyway You can retain cookies for those web sites you use with log ins (such as Ancestry etc) If you have log in passwords etc, for the sites you visit often you would just need to log in to those after running Ccleaner You could then save the up to date cookie I run Ccleaner after every session NB2 Ccleaner also has registry altering functions, I would say not to touch that unless you know what you are doing Nivard Ovington in Cornwall (UK) On 25/12/2013 03:34, Robert Rothenbuhler wrote: > How do you delete/clear temp internet files?
Aren't 1880 and 1940 free? Does that have anything to do with your problem?
Hi Nivard. I just found out something. I can get Ancestry.com to work ok for 1940 and 1880. That is the only years that it works for. It don't work for and death certificates. I get a banner above the image that tells me it can't be downloaded unless I click to in to say I trust the site (or something like that). As soon as I click on the banner and it disappears, I can download the image, and it give me the option of where I want to save it. (A smiley face appears at the top of this message. Lila, I can't get mine to go that far. The black page apears and about 1 or 2 seconds later, it reverts back to some of their advertising.
