    3. If you are using anything other than Windows 8, I would recommend Microsoft Security Essentials. I have used it on my Windows XP computer and my laptop with Windows 7 and have not found anything better, including paid programs. Unfortunately, it is not available for Windows 8.l so I am using Avast now, which is also a great free anti virus program. It will run a boot scan when you first install it and assure you that there are no virus already on your computer. 2. I've been using F-Secure for the past three years with my Charter internet service without any problem. The only problem is that when it runs it slows my computer down for about 45 minutes. Updates automatically so it's always current. The free version is plenty good enough, though they do have a paid version with a few extra features. And DLing it from their site is fine, and totally trustworthy. www.avast.com. I suggest NOT using sites like filehippo or CNet, but going direct to the author or company site for any software. --- This email is free from viruses and malware because avast! 3. Morning all Not the most earth shattering of problems, but am interested to learn what the reasons are behind it if possible I have a laptop with Windows 7, I use Firefox as a browser, Thunderbird as emailer and have a flat screen monitor attached so I can use two screens at the same time I usually have my email open on the laptop and browse on the monitor When I close down they are the end screens Until a few days back they opened on the screens I closed them on, one day I moved Thunderbird to the flat screen and browser to the laptop and now when I open up thats the way they open, no matter what screen I close that window on So after that preamble, my question is what fixes (for want of a better term) the way each opens ? As I said not earth shattering, but would like to know why Anyone know? -- Nivard Ovington in Cornwall (UK)

    1. [COMPUTERS] Operating systems
    2. I am currently using Windows XP on my elderly Dell. As XP will no longer be supported after 1 April I was wondering which of the later operating systems will allow me to continue using my 32bit programs like PAF-5. I would rather not have to switch to another program as I am used to the ones I have and at my age find it difficult to change to new things. Any suggestions? XP will continue to work fine, but there won't be any new updates, which might mean security issues will go unfixed. But XP has been in use long enough that there probably aren't going to be any big holes found that can be exploited. Newer programs will certainly come along that need the newer operating systems, but that's not often a problem for most users. --- This email is free from viruses and malware because avast!
