Ever since I rebooted my computer to get rid of what I thought were problems, I've been getting a sharing violation message when I try to save any of my microsoft products, such as word, Excel, etc. I end up saving versions that have random numbers and letters in them, and if I want to save my own name, I have to use another name, or add a number to the end of my original name. Then I have to totally get out of the system, and shut down my computer before I am allowed to go back in and delete my numerous versions of the same items that I've updated. I keep a running spreadsheet of my expenditures, so this is getting very irritating, since I tend to save, save, save, to make sure I don't lose any work. Is there a problem with how I reinstalled these products? My daughter says she gets the same things happening to her computer, and she did this reinstall for me. Perhaps the NAME/ID that I've got now on the reinstalled version is competing with some name my older works have on them? I really am irritated with this new thing, since I never had to deal with it before. What it actually says is: Your changes could not be saved to 'XXX.xls' because of a sharing violation. Try saving to a different file. Then it gives a random title, this last one was 45A41000. THEN, it asks Do you want to save the changes you made to 'XXX.xls'? (MY ORIGINAL NAME) I can answer Yes, No or Cancel. I chose Cancel. It starts being like a round robin where I can't save anything, but it keeps suggesting ways to save a file that has sharing violations. It's still ME doing the work, so this is getting in the way of my progress!! So, I save. To a file with a name I supply. Then I have all my old versions, the computer saves all the numbered versions as well, and then I have my newest iteration of the file. I can't delete any of them until I've closed out everything, shut off the computer, then opened everything back up. Please help!!! And keep in mind, I can't wrap my brain around complicated answers. Speak down to me, an old lady who loves to use this stuff, but doesn't understand how it works. I need to know how to fix this myself, and probably my daughter's as well. Hopefully, it will be a simple fix. (I did download updated versions of everything while rebooting, including IE8, etc.) Myra Herron

Is Advanced Registry Optimizer (ARO), worth downloading? I am using CCleaner, Spybot, and AVG 8.0 free. Thank you, Stan B.
The Dell tech replaced my laptop's motherboard. I guess it was pretty expensive but I strove to forget...its story is one that bears repeating, however. I have a cell phone cable that connects to the Internet. My cell phone has a little rubber plug that fits into the cable receptacle, but while I was using the cell phone connection several times a day, I just left the plug out and kept the phone in my pocket while I wasn't actually using it. I guess static electricity caused the problem--I took the phone out of my pocket and plugged in the cable, which had remained plugged into the laptop's USB port, and everything went black the instant I plugged it in. Diagnosis: fried the motherboard. Lesson: use the rubber plug in the phone at all times when the cable isn't plugged in. US-CERT Current Activity Conficker Worm Targets Microsoft Windows Systems Original release date: March 29, 2009 at 8:18 pm Last revised: March 29, 2009 at 8:18 pm US-CERT is aware of public reports indicating a widespread infection of the Conficker worm, which can infect a Microsoft Windows system from a thumb drive, a network share, or directly across the network if the host is not patched with MS08-067. The presence of a Conficker infection may be detected if a user is unable to navigate to the following websites: http://www.symantec.com/norton/theme.jsp?themeid=conficker_worm&inid=u s_ghp+link_conficker_worm http://www.mcafee.com If a user is unable to reach either of these websites, the Conficker infection may be indicated (the most current variant of Conficker interferes with queries for these sites, preventing a user from visiting them). If a Conficker infection is suspected, the infected system should be removed from the network. Major anti-virus vendors and Microsoft have released several free tools that can verify the presence of a Conficker infection and remove the worm. Instructions for manually removing a Conficker infection from a system have been published by Microsoft in Knowledgebase Article 962007. US-CERT encourages users to prevent a Conficker infection by ensuring all systems have the MS08-067 patch (part of Security Update KB958644, which was published by Microsoft in October 2008), disabling AutoRun functionality (see US-CERT Technical Cyber Security Alert TA09-020A), and maintaining up-to-date antivirus software. US-CERT will provide additional information as it becomes available.
