With all due respect, if that was the case then nobody would be able to install this update successfully. No... I think it is definitely a problem with the update, but it fails only when certain parameters exist in the user's system. This is why I suggest the call to Microsoft, as they will be able to assist in the installation and they know what to look for in the user's system. Regards, Kevin. I think there are some incorrect files/settings in Barbara's system. A user documented their call to Microsoft here (see the post on Apr 16, 9:29 pm)... http://groups.google.com/group/microsoft.public.windowsupdate/browse_thread/thread/fd463b571158ee3e?hide_quotes=no&pli=1 -------- Microsoft made some changes to file names in the System32 folder, then had me reboot. Then they uninstalled the update and had me reboot. Then they made some more changes in the Sytem32 folder, downloaded and ran the update manually, and had me reboot. At this point, Windows Update was able to detect that the update was done and it stopped offering me the update. I guess Microsoft made 6 - 8 changes overall (not 20 as I previously stated) but I couldn't keep track of what they were doing. I know they did not directly edit the registry. It seemed to be a known problem and their support script was very precise. -------- On Fri, Apr 17, 2009 at 2:42 AM, Robert Wilson <robowil@earthlink.net> wrote: > Barbara > > Have you tried downloading it from the website? Thanks to all that tried to help me. I forgot to say I don't know much about computers.. Here is what I see so far. I still have the little shield telling me I have one update .. KB956572. I did try to update to download from the site this morning. It said it was a success. I looked at my history and it seems I have had 8 successes downloading KB956572. and yet the security shield still has the update ready for me to down load. Some one said delete it and download KB956572 again. I tried to do delete from add and remove can't find it there.. If there is anything I can do short of calling for repair please let me know but in baby steps. I have a site with 5600 photos, broken up into "galleries" of 200 each. It was the only way I could manage it when I started it 7 years ago. It's the type of thing that is added to continually. I use FreeFind so that I and others can search the site. It would be nearly impossible for me to go back rearrange or merge things. FreeFind is easy to use and might make it easier for you to find what you need to add the photos. www.freefind.com Vanessa At 07:55 PM 4/16/2009, you wrote: >I am sort of thinking aloud here, but would appreciate any thoughts anyone >has on the subject.
