Hi Kevin, I've got CCleaner on my desktop and thought about running it on the Eee, but there is no room to load it. Can it run from an external harddrive, because that might be the solution? I might have found my own answer. Another tech forum says they are tempory files left behind after Window automatically updates. However one person says to leave them there in case I want to uninstall later - several others say they can be deleted. I doubt I'll be uninstalling, so I guess I can delete them. I'll wait in case any of you have thoughts on the subject though. Another techie question. In the Windows folder there a whole lot of files called $NTUninstallKB#####$. ( the # symbol here represents a whole lot of various numbers). They're coloured blue unlike normal directories which are black. Doing a Google search for this I found help site that said they can be deleted, but didn't say what they are. Any ideas? Robyn
My Eee has been converted from Linux to Windows XP (it seemed like a good idea at the time) which means the very small memory is choking. I've just found that Internet Explorer is loaded. Since I never use it, so can I delete it? It doesn't show up in the Add/Delete Programs though. I think there are a lot of things like this - just not explored far enough yet. Robyn
Hi, I'm trying to clear space on my tiny Eee laptop. There's a file sitting on the desktop called 950116.sgml which I'd like to delete if possible, but I have no idea what it is or where it came from. I can't open it to see what it is. It's only 392KB, but on an Eee every bit/byte is important. Any clues on how I can find out if I need it?
Morning Robyn It is an old story ... IE has always been 'fully integrated' [read welded in] with the Windows OS. That is what fired up the EU because it was clearly anti-competitive [and they finded $Soft mega $] Supposedly $Soft has sort of made it somehow semi-detached. However if you try to remove it from a version of XP I would expect XP to go bottom-up. Best option I would guess is to re-install Linux. You can try out Obuntu on a Live disc on your desktop and play with it until you are comfortable ... WITHOUT affecting your existing Windows set up in any way. You can also then install it from the same disc if you want to. Hi Kevin I don't know if you can answer my question The cynic in me asks "whats in it for them"? It sounds like Secunia is a good idea but what does it plant on your computer without your knowledge and if it doesn't, why do they make it available for free? Any ideas? You should be able to DRAG the TaskBar back down to the bottom. Just put your mouse cursor on an empty part of the Task Bar, LEFT click and drag the TaskBar down to the bottom. You should then LOCK the TaskBar (so it doesn't move again) by RIGHT clicking on an empty area and selecting "Lock the Taskbar" Regards, Kevin.
