    3. Not sure if this applies or not, but it is a good procedure for completely uninstalling and removing Enhanced Image Viewer from your system, then re-installing... 2. Yes, it's a pain to uninstall and reinstall Enhanced Image Viewer, and once it's installed but not working, it has to be completely removed before it can be installed again. I went through the whole process with Ancestry.com's help when my computer was new a couple of months ago. It simply would not download, and Support sent me the program as an attachment to E-mail, so I don't have to download it again. Support sent me an E-mail telling me that it will *not* work with IE 8. Presumably they will tweak it so that it does, but that was not promised. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Kevin Ross" <kr5927@gmail.com> To: <computers@rootsweb.com> Sent: Friday, May 08, 2009 10:21 AM Subject: Re: [COMPUTERS] Internet Explorer 8 > Not sure if this applies or not, but it is a good procedure for > completely uninstalling and removing Enhanced Image Viewer from your > system, then re-installing... > > Can't view images at all - new image viewer download won't install > (Scroll down to the last message reply -- it is QUITE LENGTHY) > http://boards.ancestry.com/topics.ancestry.ancsite/9579.2.1.1.1.1.1.1.1.1.1.2.1.1.1.1/mb.ashx > > > > On Fri, May 8, 2009 at 11:07 AM, <LNiemannG@navix.net> wrote: >> >> It wiped out Ancestry.com's Enhanced Image Viewer, and Ancestry has no >> fix; >> the viewer simply isn't compatible with IE 8. 3. If you have an extra cable, hook the laptop direct to the modem or router (delete the old connection first) then set up new connection. If this doesn't work you will have to call AT&T or if you are using a router call the manufacturer. When I used a router - Linksys - they were very helpful. 3. Hi Bud? But I get that without having to go to somewhere else to check the mail that I want to download, why add more work? Whatever I download to OE I can see the size of, if it has an attachment and who from etc, subject lines are often very poor indicators of the content of the mail so I check each mail and delete or not as the case may be, reply to those I want to and continue, it would drive me round the bend to have to keep going to MW to see whats arrived I still cannot see any point in using it, gmails spam filters seem to be set just about right as far as I can see Best wishes Nivard Ovington, in Cornwall (UK) > MailWasher checks your mail WITHOUT actually downloading it onto your > computer. > > THAT installs an extra level of security a virii and trojans do NOT ever > get on your system, > MW allows you to delete them directly from the mail server. > > After checking mail with MW, you can mark for deletion anything you don't > want, > AND MW will let you know if a message has an attachment, and MW also > allows you > to use a 'blacklist' of theirs to mark probable spam. > > Just do NOT EVER use the 'bounce' function.

Who set up your system previously? Are you using a wireless router? You will probably need to make sure both computers are set to either dynamic DNS, or set to fixed IP addresses that are different on each computer. The best bet is to find someone locally that knows what they're doing.

    3. Hi Robert Mailwasher was suggested to me a long while back so I took a look at it but have never fired it in anger <g> I could not then or now see the point in it Tell me if I am wrong You set up mailwasher which accepts all your mail, you can select certain addresses to be on the approved list so they are released without intervention to your inbox, but for all others you have to go to mailwasher to check that all are required (or not) before they are released Once all released you can read or not from your inbox At present I use sky (gmail) downloaded to Outlook Express, the vast majority of spam gets redirected to the spam folder before it gets to me, at worst I get perhaps one spam per day which is not to much of a trial to press delete on, everything else I receive I want About once a month I go to my sky account email and check the spam folder, once in a blue moon I find one that should not be there but thats quite unusual So how does mailwasher take a step out? as far as I can see it adds one in More than happy to be proved wrong, always willing to learn, perhaps I have misunderstood it?
