Hi Nivard, You're absolutely right - terribly long winded! But I enjoy doing it. I write all my notes up in Word (actually Open Office at present) too. It has been suggested that I need to get a life.... I did mess around for a while designing an Access database for it all, but gave up. Might get back to it one day. Hi Myra, Thank you for replying and supplying the link, I did have it but wanted to assess the information before proceeding any further. Thanks Kevin, I am a little lost on the source info but from what you say the chart was created in Exel rather than a genealogy program. It is accademic really, as I have now manually copied the information, but as I have Exel [2007] for future reference do you know if there is a way to import the chart so that the hyperlinks are retained? Hi Nirvard, Thanks for the suggestion. I did try to copy the info to Exel but it didn't copy the hyperlinks and was quite `messed up'. I hate being defeated by these things and ended up extracting the information manually into Family Tree Maker. I was just curious to know whether there was a specific program which created in that format as I had never seen it before. Hi Judith A simple way to achieve a similar result, for browser viewed chart is HTMLPedigree, which converts a gedcom file into a JavaScript series of linked files, with an index, and you can attach pictures, documents other web links, etc. You can view a sample and/or download a free trial version at http://www.htmlpedigree.com/index.htm - it is a lot easier than programming an Excel worksheet. I use it for my online trees and on a CD Version of the full tree. There is a way to contact the owner of the tree. Try: http://users.bigpond.net.au/meharg/ You can then try to give him feedback and ask him what that program is. Hi Nivard, Yes, I agree with you. With AVG I also run 3 spy ware programs on my system. I run all three of them on a weekly basis. What one might miss, the other might pick up. Since uninstalling Norton, I have had no problems with my computer. I keep current on all updates. One is inviting trouble if they don't keep current. Hope Carolyn gets her system running correctly. -----Original Message----- From: computers-bounces@rootsweb.com [mailto:computers-bounces@rootsweb.com] On Behalf Of Kevin Ross Hi Carolyn, Please don't be confused between an anti-virus program and an anti- spyware program. They are two different beasts !!!....snip... ========================================================= Thanks, Kevin, Steve and Lloyd, No, I know that Norton is antivirus and Spyware Doctor is for spyware. However, my Norton does have a component called antispyware (apparently it is not working too well, though!!). My main concern was that there are no conflicts between Norton and Spyware Doctor. Also, I was wondering if any of you had any experience with Spyware Doctor, whether or not you all think it is a decent product. I thank you all for the responses and for your suggestions. I keep thinking about AVG, because I hear about it all the time on this list. I guess I'm just one of those people who figure if it's "free," then maybe it's not that good (because I have always felt like there is NOTHING free!) Smile! However, right about now, I am feeling a little silly because I have the latest, greatest (supposedly) Norton antivirus, and I keep it updated, but I just am not too sure that I am all that protected against threats out there. Of course, there are NO guarantees. Sigh! I may very well give AVG a chance when this Norton subscription runs out. But, back to the original question, does anyone on this list know if Spyware Doctor is any good? Thanks! ... And best wishes to all on this list for a pleasant week....
