Go to Programs - Accessories - System Tools - System Restore Click on Restore my computer to an earlier time. You can see how many months of Restore Points you have stored which is probably a lot more than you need, if you haven't changed it. Go back to the previous page. On the left side of the page you'll see "System Restore Settings. It opens a page where you can set the amount of disc space to use. I have mine set a 4 % which is about one month of restore points. Mine also creates Daily System Checkpoints Bob Wilson
Now that we have more of the story. When USB devices are being used and the system goes to Sleep or hibernation they (the devices) may not wake up or fully restart. Tell us more about this computer. Try turning OFF the sleep and/or hibernation. If this goes way, then we know it is the wireless NIC. Some NIC can be set so that they do not shut down when the machine goes to sleep or hibernation. BUT, then on some machine this setting will prevent it from going into the sleep/hibernation mode. If this is a desktop, I see no reason to be using sleep/hibernation mode. I do not even use it on my laptops, but again they are plugged in all the time, except for when I am using it away from a power source. Hello group , Please tell me this : Where is the restore file stored ? , Does XP make a new one every time it is started ?? does it overwrite the old one ? OR does it make a new one KEEPING The Old ONES ??? , in otherwords , Why is my box taking ' forever ' to starft each morning ? NO Virus !!, no nothing ! Fire wall is working ! , Phil
Chris Sent: 10 June 2009 09:20 > ... are all USB 2.0. I don't understand why you should be > being presented with the message recommending that you try > a faster port. It could be that the device that you've plugged into the port is one using Version 1 of the USB specification. I assume (but don't know) that this would cause the port on your PC to revert to the V1 mode of working so cause the operating system (Vista?) to issue the advice. This seems a long shot. What is the device? Chris
Don, If you are using Outlook Express for your e-mail do the following: When you are in Outlook Express, click on TOOLS, click on OPTIONS, select the SEND tab, click HTML settings and be sure SEND PICTURES WITH MESSAGES is checked. The recipients of your e-mail using Outlook Express should click on TOOLS, OPTIONS, Click the SECURITY TAB, then clear the box next to BLOCK IMAGES AND OTHER EXTERNAL CONTENT IN HTML E-MAIL. That should fix your problem. Hi - according to the specification - the four USB ports on the front, and the other four at the rear, are all USB 2.0. I don't understand why you should be being presented with the message recommending that you try a faster port. Chris

On my wife's computer, the one USB port in front is not as fast as the others, on the back. Pam Sent: 09 June 2009 07:12 > ... it tell me to connect to another USB port for it to > perform faster ... Pam - there have been a number of generations of USB port - the main ones being versions 1, 2 and 3. Version 1 was introduced in 1994, version 2 in 2000 and 3 in 2008. The main differences are those of speed - 2 was forty times as fast as 1 and 3 is ten times as fast as 2 (all speeds are approximate and could be less). For your computer to recommend that you user a faster port - I assume that it was built with a version 1 port. With version 1 supporting up to 12 Mbps, and most broadband connections being of that order or less, you do not have a problem. Version 2 and 3 USB ports enter their own when you use external disk drives which would use the available speed. I have used external disk drives with version 1 ports, and they do work - but noticeably slowly. Other uses are when using USB keyboards and mice. Again, they do work with version 1, but are much better with version 2. Adding version 2 ports to an older desktop computer can be done by adding a suitable PCI card and it is cheaper than buying a new computer. But you may not need version 2 ports. Chris
Hi List For this past few days when I switch on my computer is doesn't connect to the net, (I have BT Broadband) I have to restart and then it connects?? and, another thing is that it tell me to connect to another USB port for it to perform faster?? don't understand theses things as I'm not computer literate!! Pam
It is my first vista pc but I'm sure that's not the problem as it happens when I'm just doing word processing. Peter > Hi Peter > > It doesn't sound like a problem to me.
