I just bought a new router it's a Linksys wireless-G broadband Router. It came with a program named Network Magic it had a free trial period which has expired is this program something I need? I have a win XP computer and a laptop with vista on it when I check the program it looks like it helps you with internet connection. Barbara
Hi Joe, I`m not sure if my original email got through. I use a very simple program to resize photos, which can easily do a batch or singles. You can download it (freebie) at http://www.snapfiles.com.get/pixsizer.html I have been using it for many years now, and prefer it to other programs on offer. Ken Smart.
A program I use is East Thumbs, a free program that allows you to enter any size you want them to be, below the original size down to very tiny thumbs. It will change one photo, or the whole directory at one time http://www.fookes.com/ezthumbs/ Bea ----- Original Message ---- > From: "Joenoro@wmconnect.com" <Joenoro@wmconnect.com> > To: computers@rootsweb.com > Sent: Saturday, June 13, 2009 4:53:15 PM > Subject: [COMPUTERS] Resizing photos > > > I have been sent some tombstone photos for one of my cemetery pages. Hi Joe I am not sure of the steps you are taking to re-size your image. Or your skill level, so this might be too basic, but it sounds as though you are just changing the display view in Irfanview (Under the 'View Menu'). Irfanview also offer's Image manipulation, which is located under the 'Image Menu' - changes made using the resample/resize option and saved will reduce the image size when loaded in future and elsewhere. How to change the size in Irfanview: 1. start Irfanview, and load the image. 2. Select 'Image Menu', then 'Information' This will tell you the picture size note the following: a) Resolution (usually in DPI) b) Original & Current Image Size c) Print Size (based on the DPI) 3. Click OK to exit 4. Select 'Image Menu' and 'Resize/Resample' This gives you options to change the image by setting its size changing it by a percentage, or to standard screen sizes. 5. Select the size you want, and if you are confident the DPI. DPI or Dots per Inch, sets the quality 70DPI is fine for web use 150 DPI is good quality - 300 is high quality but creates a large file. DPI adjustment without resizing affects the print and screen size of the image. 6. Click OK when you are happy. 7. Repeat step one and compare the sizes quoted. 8. When you are happy with the size, including 'size on disc' click on File, Save as (or Save if you do not want to keep the original) If you want a fuller explanation of DPI visit http://www.wisegeek.com/what-is-dpi.htm Should you be using other programs such as XNView, the options are all there (although the 'Information' option is less helpful) Regards Bernard. -----Original Message----- From: computers-bounces@rootsweb.com [mailto:computers-bounces@rootsweb.com]On Behalf Of Joenoro@wmconnect.com Sent: 13 June 2009 20:53 To: computers@rootsweb.com Subject: [COMPUTERS] Resizing photos I have been sent some tombstone photos for one of my cemetery pages. Do you have some image dimensions coded into your html on your site? If you do, that would force the image into those dimensions. You could ask on the Freepages discussion group. Give your site's URL so that people can look at the code. Hi Joe, What program are you using to re-size the photos? For quick work on a lot of photos, I use a program called Irfanview, which allows you to make a selection of photos and resize them in a batch process. If you want to try the program (it's free), I can guide you through the process of doing a batch re-size. Let me know... Irfanview http://www.irfanview.com/ Regards, Kevin. I'm far from an expert, but that happened several times to me--both times I closed them in dismay. I opened again later to think about resizing and, to my surprise, both opened up in a 'regular' size. I have no idea why or how--I did nothing different in opening them the second time. Once again, MSFT wants to push junk on the world and pretend it's doing good... It would be better if they just let people know about all the excellent, free AV software that already exists. -----Original Message----- From: computers-bounces@rootsweb.com [mailto:computers-bounces@rootsweb.com] On Behalf Of Lynne Sent: Saturday, June 13, 2009 8:09 AM To: computers@rootsweb.com Subject: [COMPUTERS] Microsoft to give away anti-virus From the BBC: > The company is reportedly trialling free anti-virus software > internally and said the beta version would be released "soon". > > Called Morro, the software will tackle viruses but lack the broader > range of utilities, such as parental locks, found in paid-for security > suites. > > Morro will be Microsoft's second venture in the highly competitive > security market. > > Microsoft's first attempt revolved around the Windows Live OneCare > service that did not succeed in turning many customers away from > rivals such as Symantec and McAfee. > > Microsoft plans to discontinue Live OneCare once the Morro software is > ready. > > No specific date has been given for when Morro will be released, but > in the past Microsoft has said it would be out by the end of 2009 at > the latest. > Read the story at http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/technology/8095932.stm
