    3. Donald...HP has a couple of "patches" for printers...I had to have one to make my 2210 work with IE-7...(but they do not have one for IE-8 yet), but I remember they had something for 2000. You could put your Printer model in and search for a "patch". Sorry I don't have a link to it just now. Beth <snip> I have a HP Photosmart Printer 7660, It is connected to a Compac Deskpro , Microsoft Windows 2000 computer. I use it as second computer. The computer recognizes that the printer is there and what it is but will not make it work. Is there a way to make the printer work.

    3. Thank you to everyone who responded to me. As the replies were off list I give the easiest method here: Install the CD as per the setup option. Leave the CD in the drive. Then type the following in the "Run" box, xcopy d:\*.* /s /d /y c:\ [d: being the CD drive letter, c: being the drive letter of where you want the files] Navigate to this file: C:\ program files\LDS_CD\BRIT1851\Brit1851.ini Then change the following line to your hard drive letter: Drive=c:\ Best Wishes, Chris.

    3. Hi Listers, I have just bought Microsoft Office 2007. I am trying to insert Digger Birth records into a word document. The originals are in single line spacing but every time I insert them they come out in double line. Is there anyway to prevent this? The document is set to single line spacing. It seems to be connected to the fact that if I dont type a full line and hit return the next line is double spacing. How do I overcome either or both of these problems, it is so annoying! Regards Judith

    3. I suppose this will be too complicated, but here goes... I have a BIG requirement to paste "unformatted text" into many applications. I used to copy and then paste into Notepad (which strips out any formatting) and then copy from Notepad to the final destination. But this was cumbersome and took too much time. I have found a little program call PureText which runs when I boot up my computer each day. This program allows me to do a copy (Ctrl + C) and then Paste using the PureText Paste Key Combination (<Windows Key> + V). It is quick and easy to get used to and saves a lot of time if you need to do this sort of thing. Not sure if this would solve your problem, Judith, but I thought I would give it a try !!! PureText http://www.stevemiller.net/puretext/ Regards, Kevin. 3. Many thanks to each of you....Lynn, Kevin, Bob, Nivard, Robert...and all the rest of you...for your answers to my problem with scanning/copy and paste. I have learned so much from all your information...I had no idea that a plain "scan" was really a "picture"...and so must be handled in a different way. I was finally able to "Editable Scan" and select portions of the document to share with others. This has been a very interesting time, reading all that you sent as well as the links that you sent. HP finally answered my queries and told me to do all kinds of things to "update" my softwear....this printer is about five years old...but the bottom line is that they do not have an update for it. And in the big middle of uninstalling and reinstalling the original softwear and using their "scrubber"...I mistakenly let Microsoft download IE-8...which I had no intention of doing. And now, my "HP Director" does not work with IE-8...just as it did not work with IE-7...but HP did a patch for that problem. There is one work-around I found on the net, but it is a bit of a bother to do it every time I want to scan. No patch for IE-8...but they say "maybe"....why don't you buy a new printer!!!!! The one you have is obsolete and my computer is also obsolete! I replied that I guess I am obsolete too, so I just better keep what I have! Thanks again for taking the time to share your knowledge and thoughts...I really have made progress with all your help. "Obsolete Beth"

After you have installed the HP C4280 installation files, look for HPQSCNVW.exe (i.e. HP Scanning App file for Windows 2000), it is likely stored here ("C:\Program Files\HP\Digital Imaging\bin\hpqscnvw.exe") or under a Hewlett-Packard folder. If you can't the above file, try to look for this file: "C:\Program Files\HP\Digital Imaging\bin\hpqdirec.exe", similar scanning application file. 2. Create a shortcut to this application file on your desktop, and once you have plugged in your C4280 USB to your PC, launch this app and the scanning will work. The problem you encountered was due after installation, HP's app file somehow didn't manage to be created as an icon or shortcut on the PC, due to some compatibility issue with Windows 2000. 3. For those on Windows XP and Vista, if you still encountered scanning problem, e.g. USB not connected, etc. Follow steps 1 and 2 above, but look for: HPQSCNVW.exe or HPQTRA08.exe files instead in step 1.
