    3. Hi Lila, I think I am misunderstanding you problem.  I had a look at the file you sent and had no problems entering an "O umlaut" using Alt+0214. Is this your issue or am I not understanding properly ? You stated... "I attempted to type Valentin Öhm, and the umlaut O simply will not appear." ... How are you typing in this name ? 3. I suspect the file may be corrupted, that is, that there's a "bad spot" in it. What I would try, first, is to delete the entire offending sentence -- at least five or ten words on either side of the one not working. Then save the file and re-open it, and re-enter what you deleted. Worth a try... You can send me the file, too, if you want. I have Word 2003. Dina > This has never happened to me before. 3. Dear Problem Solvers, This has never happened to me before. I'm working in Word 2003. I attempted to type Valentin Öhm, and the umlaut O simply will not appear. It appears elsewhere in the doc, where I used Alt + 0214 = Ö (Capital O). I closed and reopened the doc; no. Then I rebooted my computer, still no. I'm using Courier New, 11 pt. bold throughout the doc, with a few words 9 pt. Where the same name is elsewhere in the doc, it is just fine. I just realized that when I use Find, Word won't find Oehm, which I typed in place of what I need. It finds Valentin and any other words I ask for. There must be something amiss on that line?? I typed the name on another line and tried pasting it in, and it give me just an O, not the umlaut. I just discovered that print preview shows the umlaut... Any ideas? I can attach the doc and send it to someone who would like to see what I'm up against. Lila

    3. I use Firefox as my browser. I have XP. After I've been online for awhile my PC gets slow, so I close Firefox and reopen it. Always before I had the option to save the tabs I had opened. Then when I reopened Firefox the saved tabs would open. Today I noticed that I'm not given that option, just a warning that I'm about to close 4 or 5 or what ever I had open. Did they take that away in an update or did I do something? -- Thanks, Donna

    3. US-CERT Current Activity Adobe Releases Shockwave Player Update and Flash Player Security Advisory Original release date: July 29, 2009 at 10:12 am Last revised: July 29, 2009 at 10:12 am Adobe has released Shockware Player 11.5.1.601 because previous versions used a vulnerable version of the Microsoft Active Template Library (ATL). Additionally, Adobe has released a security advisory to address the same issue in Flash Player. Exploitation of this vulnerability may allow an attacker to execute arbitrary code. The security advisory for Flash Player indicates that Adobe will be releasing fixes for this issue on July 30, 2009. In the interim, the advisory suggests that users consider installing the Cumulative Security Update for Internet Explorer as defined in Microsoft Security Bulletin MS09-034 to help mitigate some of the risks until fixes are available. US-CERT encourages users and administrators to review Adobe documents APSB09-11 and APSA09-04 and apply any necessary updates to help mitigate the risks. 3. Aha! It works--but I can't do anything with it after I have it. I can put an A before it, but the a that I type after it is a space away: An a. Works perfectly for Nieman. Pasting in to PAF's notes leaves the 'doctored' letter out completely. Some things are simply not possible, I guess. But I will certainly keep the directions on hand for future reference. 3. That almost works. I type n0304 then hold down Alt and type x, and I get capital N with a macron right *after* it, not over it, and I don't want capital N. I have Word 2003. I start with Arial font, but as soon as I do the Alt + x maneuver, it changes to Tahoma font. What am I doing wrong?
