Yvonne, I have a very small program that removes the oldest Java program on your computer. It is a winzip program 35kb. I can try to send it to your personal email account if you wish. You will need a program to unzip it. I have had a few problem send attachments on charter net but we could try. Can I delete Update 13? NOT a good idea. Sun doesn't properly remove only files before updates, so an uninstall can remove files you need.
If not the battery - then it could be a failing CPU or related chipset and that is NOT what you want to find. There are some simple diagnostics that interrogate the chipset. However, if the PC is not yours, then you wouldn't want to become involved with those. It would be a job for a trusted repair shop - trusted not just to say "buy a new one" without first bothering to find out what is wrong. Good Afternoon, I just noticed that I have Sun Java 6 Update 13 and Java 6 Update 15 on my computer. Can I delete Update 13? Thank you. Yvonne

Peter, It could be that the battery on the motherboard is about to give up. It is this that keeps the power on the memory used to store the BIOS settings - e.g. details of the CPU and disk. I strongly suggest that you go into the BIOS settings and write down those for the hard disk. Should the battery fail and the BIOS looses the information on the disk, it may be difficult to access the disk. The battery is small - often one like used in a digital watch, kitchen scales, etc. Changing it is usually simple - a clip - and usually you don't lose the BIOS settings if it only takes you a few seconds to put the new one in. Your computer's handbook should explain all. If it is more complex than I suggest (e.g. for a laptop) - then a trip to the local computer repair shop should suffice. Hi Can anyone advise on this please? On startup the message comes up "cpu has been changed. Please re enter cpu settings in the cmos set up and save before quitting." Yes, you can go into CMOS setup and make changes, which is what you are being prompted to do, but the real question is how the information stored in CMOS suddenly ceased to be accurate. Is this a computer that had been working normally prior to the appearence of these messages? The problem is serious and needs to be addressed, but more serious is why this has happened. Has someone been tinkering with your computer? If not, this message could signal a component failure. It looks like this is software that came with your scanner. I would NOT remove it. It may be simply an added enhancement for image management, but it could also be the software needed to actually do the scanning. Their web site describes what the software can do: http://www.nuance.com/imaging/products/paperport.asp The question is why it's showing up on your Control Panel. I would expect to find it on your Programs menu. Unless you load (open) a program, it's not using any memory, so there's no reason to remove it just because of its size. I have program, NUANCE Scansoft PaperPort 11 and don't know why it's on my computer. This is a definition I found about it: PaperPort’s large, clear item thumbnails allow you to visually organize, retrieve and use your scanned documents, including Word files, spreadsheets, PDF files and even digital photos. PaperPort’s Scanner Enhancement Technology tools ensure that scanned documents will look great. I have a Brothers Scanner/Printer which I am unable to hook up right, and want to know if this Paper Port program is in anyway necesary to operate the Printer I have. I would like to eliminate it from the control panel if not because it is a large program. . . 126.00 MBs Can anyone explain why I should need this, especially to operate my Brother's Printer. Thank you, Joan

Good Afternoon All I have just found two Registry entries flagged as "Registry Fixes" requiring repair and I cannot fix either ... EVEN by using Regedit! They are: Unused File Extension HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\{80b8c23c-16e0-4cd8-bbc3-cecec9a78b79} and Empty Registry Key LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\CLASSES\{80b8c23c-16e0-4cd8-bbc3-cecec9a78b79} The fascinating thing is three physically separated machines on different phone lines with only me in common, have EXACTLY the same Unused File Extension and Empty Registry Key. Neither Advanced System Care nor CCleaner will remove them although both detect them. Normally I can remove such things by running Regedit and editing the registry directly but neither of these will allow me to edit / remove them! All machines are running XP; one Home and two Professional All are patched up to date and very kosher. All run Advanced System Care and CCleaner All run Avira AV, SpyBlaster One has Comodo Pro Firewall: two use Windows Firewall One has Office 97; two Office 2003 All connect via a NetGear Router and Tiscali ADSL Can anyone suggest what could possibly be the source or cause or have any idea what goes on: I'm mystified. Yours aye Ike Dawson
See the following: http://www.browserdefender.com/file/686084/site/free-av.com/ It discusses the installation of Avira AV. Near the bottom of the page it mentions Registry changes where it says your empty Empty Registry Key was created. Maybe they can't be deleted with Avira running, and would probably be re-created if you turned off Avira and deleted them. If they were repaired with Avira off that might solve your problem. If the port you are plugged into is not a high speed port (i.e. USB 2.0) then you probably don't have any high speed ports, which is my case. All my USB ports are USB 1.1. In my case I get the same message you get with my new printer. Just ignore it. As it says, devices will function, just at lower speeds.
