    3. Ok Kevin, I'll avoid that then. I'm not a gamer anyway but my pc isn't performing too well at present for some unknown reason and I'm just tired of waiting a minute or more for a web page to open and sometimes it doesn't open at all. I did a reboot some months ago for the same reason so I decided to fork out for one really fast. I've done the usual scans which revealed nothing. I know it's not the broadband connection because my nephew has his pc connected to the same netgear and his is fine so it was either another reboot or a new pc. Thanks Peter > Hi Peter, > > Overclocking is possible with all CPUs to one degree or another, > however, it can be dangerous, not only for your hardware, but it can > affect the running of your programs, as well... your system can get > unstable as the CPU reaches it "limits". > > Having worked for many years for a world leader in Graphics hardware, > I can tell you that this was very popular at the company I worked > for... that said, it is primarily used by Gamers... trying to squeeze > every last bit of power out of the system !!! > > Regards, > Kevin. >

It's under the control of the ISP, and it can go back slowly so that it's not noticed right away, OR in same cases the ISP just doesn't care. It's something that many users don't understand, so they don't complain as much and often blame the problem on their own computer. It's only one possibility, but it's an easy one to check and fix. Other problems could be involved too, or by themselves.

Everything on the Net works by numbers (dotted quad, or the newer IPv6). A DNS server translates names (www.something) into the correct IP address (number). If the DNS server for your ISP is flaky, and many are, you'll see what you're getting. The best fix is to 'hard code' a better DNS service into Windows. That can be done in your computer, or better yet, in your router/modem. Do a web search for "public DNS servers", and you'll find many choices. Try a few til you get one you like that works well. Most sites will explain how to set the server in your router or computer.

Yes. With Windows, the OS gets as much memory as possible up to it's limit, then apps get what's left. If anything needs more memory, something needs to be saved to the HD, then that space is used for something else, but only temporarily. More memory can often make the swapping unnecessary, speeding things up, AND reducing the wear and tear on the HD.

More than 4 gigs won't help with a 32 bit OS. Also, have you defragged your HD recently?? My 'rating' in Vista 32 jumped quite a bit when I went from 2 gigs to 4 gigs. Also, if you haven't already tried MalwareBytes anti-malware, it's worth a try, and is also freeware.

    3. Hi Peter, Overclocking is possible with all CPUs to one degree or another, however, it can be dangerous, not only for your hardware, but it can affect the running of your programs, as well... your system can get unstable as the CPU reaches it "limits". Having worked for many years for a world leader in Graphics hardware, I can tell you that this was very popular at the company I worked for... that said, it is primarily used by Gamers... trying to squeeze every last bit of power out of the system !!! 3. Hi Peter, Generally speaking, this is not something ventured into unless you are a Power User. Regards, Kevin. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Overclocking Overclocking is the process of operating a computer component at a higher clock rate (more clock cycles per second) than it was designed for or was specified by the manufacturer. This is practiced more by enthusiasts than professional users seeking an increase in the performance of their computers, as overclocking carries risks of less reliable functioning and damage. 3. Hi Bob, Did you insure that you did the verification of all updates to the 2007 Compatibility Pack? To verify that you have all of the latest updates to the Compatibility Pack, visit the Microsoft Update Web site again: http://update.microsoft.com/microsoftupdate/v6/default.aspx?ln=en-us ---------- Possible Solution here... http://www.msofficeforums.com/excel/2449-office-compatibility-pack-will-not-open-xlsx.html ---------- I suggest that you ask the question on an MS Office forum... MS Office Forums... http://www.msofficeforums.com/microsoft-office/ http://www.techsupportforum.com/forums/f57/ http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/office/forum Unfortunately, the underlying problem is the lack of support, of MS Office 2000. I would suggest, at least, upgrading to MS Office 2003, which is a decent product. Hope you have success! Regards, Kevin. 2. Hi, This is a little off topic of what you were talking about but thought I would throw in my 2 cents worth. Last year I downloaded Open Office with the understanding that it was compatible with Word. Discovered it was not and I couldn't open any of my word documents and they had the Open Office icon instead of the Word icon. I uninstalled Open Office and back to using Word and am also happy with it. Nancy In a message dated 11/14/2011 4:37:22 P.M. Eastern Standard Time, [email protected] writes: Thank you Kevin. 3. Have your daughter try this: Open a NEW email from her perferred address to send the email to.  Then paste this address below in the To: line.  Then she should be able to put the word 'subscribe' in the subject line, since it's HER email address she is sending from.    If that doesn't work, open a new email in her preferred address (the one she wants these emails sent to) and then FIRST type 'subscribe' in the subject line.  If that isn't working, then she has her own email problem.  She will need to contact Yahoo, or MSN or whomever she is using for a resolution.    But if she can type that in, THEN copy and paste the address below into the To: line, then type it also into the body of the email, and let it rip.      [email protected]     Myra Herron
