This is very true, Peter. You would save even more if you were a Photoshop user, as the MAC version costs hundreds of pounds !!! So that is another valid reason to run Windows on a MAC, if you are planning on using the MAC only. Regards, Kevin. I've just discovered a reason to install Windows on a Mac. To install Family Tree Maker. Otherwise I would have to buy the Mac version for £52. Peter > But, more to your question.... Why run Windows on a Mac. > > Regards, > Kevin.
I sent the item below the line last evening and it bounced. Tried again the morning and EI crashed when I tried to use the contact list. Think I will leave it alone for awhile as I have more pressing needs to take care of for now. Thanks for the past help. I may be back later if this problem continues. ----------------------- Thanks for the various replies. I have now found and activated the menus, with your help. I seem to be having more "senior moments" than usual since I got Windows 7. My copy of EI is #9. The Contacts I mentioned are in my yahoo.ca account. Sorry for not mentioning that. The reason I am blaming the problem on EI is that I have a second yahoo.ac which I open in FireFox, and I do not have the same problem with it. It seems to be working O'K tonight. I use EI for my mail lists, and such item that do not work well on FF. Can't remember what they are right now. They just seem to pop up now and then. Bea
That's very informative Kevin. I can't think why I would want to at the moment but it's useful to know it can be done. Thanks Peter > Hi Peter, > > Yes, you can install Windows on a Mac. Hi Bea What version of IE are you using ? Open IE , look under Help, about Internet Explorer Perhaps you have an old version and its long overdue for an update ? What do you use IE for exactly? I have it but have only used it once or twice when I run into a problem and want to know if its the browser or ??? Apart from that I use Firefox for everything Nivard Ovington in Cornwall (UK) IE was instaled by the tech when I bought my new computer awhile ago. I have a Sony Viao, with Windows 7. 1) It does not show any tool bars, nor can I find anyway to set one. I cannot bookmark sites, no find Favorites. 2) When I try to use Contacts, it often says it has run into a problem and will close. I get a few more messages that say basicly the same things, but it doesn't close. I only use IE when I actually have to, or for this e-mail account, so I haven't worked on this problem earlier. I have just set it to open with my e-mail account, but I find I do need it to work right at times. Bea
Kevin I believe you can install windows on a mac. Have you done that and why would you want to? Hi Peter, Yes, you can install Windows on a Mac. However, I believe you need to have a Mac that has an Intel CPU to do this. Currently, I have the the Beta version of Windows 8 installed on my MacBook. I am doing this for testing purposes. It is installed via a Virtual software called Parallels. This concept of Virtual Disks is quite interesting... actually allowing you to install any operating system or program in its "own little area" of your hard drive, separate from the rest of your hard drive programs and data. People do this to run other operating systems on their current system or to run programs in a separate environment for security purposes. But, more to your question.... Why run Windows on a Mac. I found this article which points to the primary reasons... http://www.everymac.com/mac-answers/windows-on-mac-faq/why-run-windows-on-intel-macs.html Hope this answers your question ! Regards, Kevin. Bea, Windows 7 comes with IE 8 and should be upgraded to IE9, and IE 7 cannot be installed on a Windows 7 machine. There is NO Contacts within Windows 7, so you must be using some email program, what is it? Where are you seeing this "Contacts" within Windows 7? I see reading the "properties" of your email you are using Yahoo.com as your email client. IE 8 and 9 does have toolbars and Favorites. Just Right click the "Title Bar" and there you will see Menu Bar, and many other tool bars that have been installed on your machine. Click the ones you want to appear within IE. Hi Peter, I have a MacBook Pro, as well and I love it, but it is a rather steep learning curve, if you are used to PCs. That said, I do recommend it as an option for those who want a system that is more or less "bullet proof" ! Regards, Kevin. Just today I have begun to have a problem with a pop-up appearing every time I change the page that I am looking at. It reads "Do you want to view only the webpage that was delivered securely?" How can I stop this from happening? Robby Robinson an 'old Yankee' in the "Heart of Dixie'

That's it. It did it once this morning a few mins after I switched on but not since then. Usually it's a few times a day. Like an i5 or i7? Someone advised I get one with a good graphics card also even though I don't play games. Peter > > Get a machine with a FAST CPU to start with, and that can run with lots of > RAM. > > Thanks, > David C Abernathy
