    3. I developed a Soundex/Metaphone batch calculator, for someone on another list that needed one. It seems a shame to keep the application to ourselves, so, if anyone else would have a use for it , I will provide a download link. The application is free. Windows and Linux versions are available. Sorry, no Mac version. Les Hardy

    3. DEM, I totally agree. In the early 1980's Peter Norton was my hero. Unfortunately, He sold out to Symantec in 1990. He was given a seat on their board, but, I don't think Peter was every involved in the code after that. Ever since then, Symantec have lived off Peter Nortons name, and their antivirus products have steadily got worse. In my opinion Symantec antivirus products are no longer of acceptable quality. Looking back over the years since the late 90's, I cannot remember a single clients computer that I DIDN'T have to take off nortons and install a decent antivirus product. 3. Hi Mary The fact it has downloaded the old mails and does not do so each time you download says to me it was a one off and they are clearing off the server If you go to gmail and sign in you will probably see an empty inbox As to the copies you are getting, as far as I know there is no easy way to stop them, mind you I prefer it that way as I know mails have been through the server and therefore more likely to reach their destination I don't know how live mail works so it may not be relevant Does it have user definable mail rules ? If so you could set up a rule to move those mails to the deleted items folder (or whatever its called in live mail) It is surely easier to just delete them isn't it? (and g-mail) When I first activated it, I got around 4000 emails - some as far back as 2009. These included emails I sent and received. Now every time I go on, I get the emails that I sent from this (desktop) computer along with any new emails. What steps do I have to take to not get my sent mails. Also so they aren't saved for several years somewhere on gmail? Thanks, Mary in rainy Michigan

The browser has been uploaded to Mozilla’s ftp server prior to release. It is currently distributed to Mozilla’s first and third party distribution network to ensure a fast and uninterrupted distribution to Firefox 8 users. The biggest new feature that Mozilla introduces in Firefox 9 is Type Inference which improves JavaScript performance significantly by using inferred type information. Mozilla noted that the new feature can speed up the browser’s JavaScript performance by up to 30%. Users will usually see less than that percentage though in their day activities. The developers furthermore have added support for font-stretch, improved support for text-overflow and improved overall standards support for HTML5, MathML and CSS. Mac OS X Lion users benefit from the new two finger swipe navigation and improved theme integration. The release notes list several stability enhancements and bug fixes that have made their way into the browser (check the complete list of changes for details, linked on the release notes page). Most Firefox users can probably wait the day until the browser is officially released by Mozilla. Users can then update Firefox with the browsers automatic update feature, or by downloading the new version from the official website. Firefox users who experience issues with the current stable version, for instance crashes, may want to install the new version as soon as possible to resolve the issues. 3. Hi Les, Many thanks for your reply. I hadn't realised there was a possibility of it being a virus. Fortunately it wasn't; I have run a full virus check. Also Adobe reckons it has the latest version. I actually posted this message yesterday and it took a day to find its way onto the list. Today everything is working perfectly! Yesterday I had to go back to the basic reader in Ancestry. And I haven't changed Adobe. So why I had the problem is a mystery that is unlikely to be solved. Now my computer says there are system updates available so I will go to the system update page as you recommend rather than click on the icon. Thanks again. Always go directly to adobe. Either with your web browser or by setting automatic updates in your viewer. The update link provided by a website may not always be a real adobe update, it may be a Trojan variant noted as TROJ_FAYKDOBE.A I'm NOT saying that is what happened. I am just making you aware of the possibility. It could just be that the first update didn't complete successfully. I would tend to think the ancestry message was correct. Ancestry would not give you a lesser version. It does not come from Ancestry themselves. Their link would simply redirect you to Adobe for the latest version. I suggest you run a virus scan, and then go to Adobe and manually download the latest version.
