I have a problem with my Power Option Windows XP Home SP3. My preference is never on al three option Monitor-Hard Drive- System. I can change all three to never, save it etc. Later I can go back and they have changed. I created a scheme and named it new. Change all to never and applied. In no time they had changed themselves. What am I doing wrong. We have another XP computer that they all stay on never. Joe

Hi Marie, It sounds to me that, when your daughter comes over and uses your computer, she logs in under a different User ID than you. When she leaves, she is not "logging out" of your computer... your are simply "switching users" to yourself.. So, when you try to shut down the computer, it thinks that someone else is using the computer, when it is really her User ID that is still logged on "in the background". The solution is to have her "log off" when she finishes using your computer. That's my best guess. Regards, Kevin. Can anyone tell me why I get the message "malicious url" when I try to access a few web sites. When I get this page it is from Avast. Example; columbiahousetv.com and findagrave.com . I have Avast virus program and I just did a complete scan and found nothing. I have Windows XP and use my cable co. web mail to get my e- mail. Sue
Sounds like the daughter or you are not logging out, but are using the "Switch User" instead. I have Windows 7 64 bits, with 2 hard drives E [32 bits] from XP & C [64 bits] the E hard drive on my old XP was put on my new 7 windows. My E hard drive keeps filling up & tells me I have little space left, I keep emptying it as much as I can, but it keeps filling up. I have kept a few files on my E drive. I have tried to delete some files on E drive, Norton being one of them, & it tells me I can’t do it as I am not the administrator, Googled & it tells me not to be the administrator, could someone with a bit of patience tell me step by step how to delete some files on the E drive, like how to enable to be the administrator & then disable. I am only good with some research & emails, the rest a mystery. Thanking You. Margaret Port Stephens NSW.
What I learned is to hold down Ctrl & F5 and use the scroll on the mouse to make the font larger. I also just bought a Win 7 laptop and was having the same problem. My son showed me that the touch pad works like the new iPhone screens. You take two fingers and "stretch" or "shrink" the screen/text size by pulling the fingers out digaonally or pulling them in. I would have never figured that one out on my own! My problem is that the touch pad is way too sensitive for me, so I have to be very careful to keep one hand away so I don't do something by accident. Thanks Linda, I could change the size of many things by just holding Ctrl down and spinning the wheel - but not PAF. Plus many programs had higher cpi settings. Got things working now. I assume that I indirectly started this conversation by saying that I like Norton 360. It's more than a virus program. It reminds me to back up and cleans up the junk on my computer and tunes it up. It keeps my passwords so I don't use the same one everywhere I go. (I am closer to 70 than to 65 and keeping up with passwords is a pain for me.) Norton offers suggestions on protecting my idenity, not just when I am on the computer, I started using computers on the intenet in 1996, a relative new-bee. I have have always used Norton. I have never had a virus and never had problems with it. Because I get usage for 3 computers for one price, I gift it to my daughter and my grandson. At 15, I am sure he goes to plenty of places on line that could end up with a virus. He obviously hasn't used it for as long as I have because he wasn't even born when I started going on line.
