I was told by a computer tech to turn the printer ON, make sure the ink cartridges are properly seated, then reach over and pull the plug (disconnect from electricity) with the printer turned on, wait 30 seconds and re-plug it in and (turn printer "on" if it has automatically shut off) He said this would force the printer back to "out of the box" settings and would usually clear up the problem. It has worked for me, hopefully it will work for you. Try removing and replacing the new cartridges and check them to make sure they are fitting in properly. If they are not seated correctly they will register as bad. Once mine did this and I found the clasp that held them in had not shut properly. Also, if you went a long time without using your printer the feeds may have dried ink in them. Don't know how to remedy this. Win XP Home SP3. I have been working a long time to get my Power options to work correctly. For various reasons, I need my computer to read never on all 3 options. I have tried various suggestions from Google. We have another XP computer with similar software that has "never" locked in on all 3 options. I have removed everything from start up but noting seems to correct the problem. I can get "never" in all 3 options, save it, go back in a few minutes and it has changed back. Is there a way to disable "Power Options" that will not create worse problems?
I want to thank all for the suggestions. The problem is solved I deleted the free Avast. It was telling me all web site that I typed into I E was Malicious. Also found out I need to preceed an url with www. [world wide web]. I did not have to do this with my Dell computer. I now have Micro Soft Security Essentials for virus protection. How often does this update ? Will it show it is updating similai to Avast / Sue. :-~:-~:-~:-~:-~:-~:-~:-~:-~:-~: Please refrain from posting commercial URLs and from discussing prices on the list. Hi David. I tried using the instructions several times. Everytime I would leave Control Panel and go back, it would be changed. It's not saving them. I downloaded a Scrip File that was suppose to correct a "not saving" problem but it didn't help it. I don't know what my problem is. There is another item that I didn't address. Once you've saved any document in RTF format (rich text), you can also go to the folder where you have that saved, and save it again, in Word format. Highlight the name of the document in your folder, then SAVE AS and under the formats, you can usually select Word 2003 format, and then it's your normal format. Myra Whew! Someone finally asked a question I might know a little bit about! I have 2003 and to move a picture anywhere you wish, you highlight the picture by clicking on it, then select 'Format' from your top toolbar. When the selection box comes up, you may select any of the choices there. Generally, because once you have formatted the picture in some way, you can drag and drop, I choose "Layout", then "Tight", and the the horizontal alignment of 'center'. You can choose left or right, but basically, you can still drag and drop the picture in your text and the text will wrap itself around the picture. Now you have to click on the picture again to show the corner and center side markers, and you just position your cursor in the middle of the picture, and drag and drop. If you want to be a little fancy, the green button at the top is your tilt button, and you can do just about anything with the picture that way. If it doesn't work the way you want at first, resize the picture (grab a corner and pull in towardshe opposite corner to make smaller, or pull out to make larger) and drag and drop into the text you want it to be in. Or just move the picture around until you're satisfied. Myra Herron I am working on creating a narrative account of our family history from a RootsMagic Report into RTF format where I have flexibility to make any changes, additions, etc. I have added some inserts of documents and pictures but now want to move them around - not on the page but in the document itself. I cannot find any way to relocate them or delete them and then replace them where I want them. I have been to many of the Help topics but nothing seems to address this. If anyone is familiar with MS Word, I would appreciate any help you can offer. Barbara Cogburn
Sorry, I forgot the rest of the instructions. To move a picture from one location to another, you can copy and paste, OR reinsert the same picture in a different area. To delete a picture, highlight it by clicking on it so you can see the corner markers, and then hit your delete key. do we need dot.net on our XP machines? & if so, do we need 2.0, 3.5, & 4.0? My daughter & I both have 4 or 5 updates for 2.0 & 3.5 that keep failing, and not knowing what dot.net is used for & if it is necessary, is it possible that we could uninstall it, with out causing a problem with our machine? There a many programs that require it to be installed. You need to check all of them (your programs) or leave it alone and keep it up to date. Some of the older programs MAY require the older versions. If you are NOT hurting for disk space, again leave it alone and keep them up to date. Those that are failing, I would uninstall, and if needed then they can be reinstalled. Family Tree Maker 2012 requires that you have .Net 4 installed. Depends. If you have some program that needs them, then Yes. it's pretty much impossible to know WHAT version is used by what. But if you do need a version and don't have it, the failure MIGHT give enough info to know what's missing, but it's just as likely that it will be a generic error message.
