Peter, Yes, it could still be Avast, but, I only used Avast for a short time to evaluate it, so I'm no expert. Maybe someone else can throw in some ideas? Did you clear the Firefox cache and cookies? What plugins/extensions do you have in Firefox? Did you turn off Avast, just long enough to prove it is not the problem? Thanks for your reply Les, My problem is that I did not realise that there was a SATA problem until the Freecom drive was taken out of its enclosure/box. There was not an easy way to do this and although the actual hard drive is ok the box is ruined so I need a suitable enclosure for it. Les I don't have any problems uploading photos when I'm using other email accounts like hotmail and surfanytime or when I change to google chrome so it can't be avast. I use webmail because I didn't know what those things you mentioned were. Thanks Peter > Peter, > Avast is a likely culprit. Peter, Avast is a likely culprit. Check in the Avast application rules, that Firefox is not blocked. You could try turning off the avast firewall while you test the image upload. Also, I'm curious to know why you use the webmail. Your runbox account gives you POP/IMAP and SMTP, with security. I have a Freecom 500gb external hard drive model SSPAG with 3.5 in drive and USB connection connected to my desktop pc. I now want to connect my external hard drive wirelessly to my wireless laptop and wired pc. I understand that what I need to do this is to put my ehd inside a USB NAS enclosure. I have purchased an Akasa AK-ENP2NDAS-BLUK USB 2.0 and LAN Integral Enclosure for 3.5 inch IDE HDD. I now realise that this is not the right piece of equipment as it is not SATA compatible with my current ehd and am sending it back to the supplier. Can anyone recommend a reasonably priced and efficient enclosure that will be compatible? David

Hi Peter, I just created an email account at runbox.com, and with Firefox 9.01, there was no problem uploading images to attach. For some reason firefox won't allow me to upload photos to my emails so I have to use google chrome. It's been like this for a couple of weeks. What could the problem be please? Peter

Ok, we fixed it. When I saw the images, I suspected David may be using Vista, and I thought the corrupt files were caused by Vista itself. What didn't make sense was that the laptop causing the corruption, was actually a Win 7 system. I suggested he turn off the 'Remote Differential Compression'. (This is on by default on Win7). That appears to have fixed it. There is a Vista bug: Copying or viewing of jpeg files (either thumbnail or full size) can render jpeg files corrupt. Files on external hard drives and media cards seem to be more susceptible. I could be wrong, but I don't think Microsoft ever acknowledged or fixed the bug, and now Microsoft no longer support Vista. There were many theories, and plenty tried to find the cause, but I don't think the it was ever isolated. I'm sure someone will leap on me for saying this, but, Win7 is really only a service pack to Vista. I now suspect the bug is still alive in Win7. In my book, any kind of file corruption when copying files is definitely not acceptable. I'm glad I use Linux. Les Hardy On 25/01/12 15:39, Kevin Ross wrote: > Interesting ! Kevin, David sent me sample images, and I have seen this before. The image byte count is is the same. The file header is intact, but large chunks of the image data as been changed. I have asked David to tell me what operating systems he is using, and what format the external drive is.
