Yes, David is absolutely correct. Scan the original at a high resolution, then when you reduce to the size you want, keep the size even, so you don't split pixels. That way you will get the best of it. If you need to 'work' on the image, do it BEFORE you resample/reduce it. Use something like 'The Gimp'. You can also print nicely from Gimp. Paint isn't up to the job. Hi David, Yes, I am aware of this... There is nothing like having the original negative or the digital equivalent, with a hope that it was taken at a sufficiently high resolution... No matter where you enlarge the photo the quality will deteriorate. There are methods in Photoshop to enlarge with reduced loss and there are other programs which will enlarge using proprietary algorithms, but I thought I would suggest an easy way to print out photos, generally speaking. Resolution in photos is always a tricky subject as there are so many variables... software, printers, etc... In this case, I am finding that the PAINT program always tries to fill the page when I try to print. The only way I can get this to change is to change my printer preferences, where the particular printer I use allows me to re-size the output. I suggest using another Image program... such as Irfanview... You have much more control over everything !!! Regards, Kevin. Many thanks to all who responded to my plea for help. I appreciate the help. Mary Fran
Hi Mary Fran, Have you got a Word Processing program, like Microsoft Word? You can save your photos and import or copy them into MS Word. Once in MS Word, the photos can be re-sized, re-positioned and printed. Regards, Kevin. Kevin, But the quality will NOT be the same. If you enlarge (zoom) within Word, the pixel count does not change and the image will get blurred real quick, on the sizes that Mary is trying to use and do. I have enlarged photos in Paint to a size I wish; maybe 4"x6". How can I get them printed in that enlarged size? They always print out in size of original photo and that is about 2"x2", taken many years ago and the faces are not clearly seen. TIA Mary Fran
How are you doing this enlarging of a photo? If you still have the original photo, it can be scanned at a higher resolution, which will produce a bigger printable image. I would use any program other than Paint, there are many Photo Editing programs out there and many are free. Hello everyone Have you noticed fewer emails in your InBox over the last few days? You may have been the victim of your ISP's block of RootsWeb mail, as I have been. Word is that all is well now. To catch up on what you may have missed, visit the list's archives. You may have bounced off very busy lists. Go to Password Central (http://passwordcentral.rootsweb.ancestry.com/) and complete the form to receive an email with the names of the lists to which you are subscribed. If you are a My Account user, you can sign in and see the lists to which you are subscribed there. You'll need to resubscribe to any lists missing from the email (or My Account). If you've sent messages to any list administrators over the last few days, the messages may not have been received so you should consider resending your message. Kind regards, Lynne

Hi Jean, This is from Microsoft's website: If your computer is running Windows XP, do the following: 1.. Click Start. 2.. Right-click My Computer, and then click Properties. a.. If you don't see "x64 Edition" listed, then you're running the 32-bit version of Windows XP. b.. If "x64 Edition" is listed under System, you're running the 64-bit version of Windows XP.
