Last night when I turned my laptop off it was working fine,, this morning the pad will not move the cursor I have to use my wireless mouse. This morning when I first turned it on I got a pop up from Firefox saying I had updated and taking me to a different looking start page, don't know if there is any connection with that and my problem but it is the only thing I know of that changed while I was sleeping. Anyone have any answers as to what I might do to fix this? I am running a Dell-Windows 7- 64 bit and the pad will not work on FireFox or on IE. Could there be a key I accidentally hit that would disable the pad? Any suggestions would be appreciated........Bobbie

Hi All, I received an email with an attachment which I want to save as a jpg file. If I right click the picture I get options of "save as" or "save all". (There is only one attachment.) If I choose "save as" it says it is going to save it as an attachment. There is a pick list but only the attachment option on it. Would it still be attached to the email, which I will be deleting? If I pick "save all" it gives the file name with a jpg extension but heads the window "Attachments to be saved". I would have thought "save all" would be the same as "save as" when there is only one attachment, but the window might be differently presented. Would someone explain whether I need to use "save all", is it going to be different to "save as" and how I get my jpg file that I want. I am using Windows7. Any explanation gratefully received. Christine
I have been having problems recently with XP unexpectedly locking up and requiring me to shut down and reboot. My security program, F-Secure, doesn't show any problems. I am hoping that someone can explain to me how to run the repair function of Windows XP in hopes that that will correct the problem without having to wipe out the hard drive and start from scratch as that is an expensive proposition. Am I correct in thinking that the repair function will not delete information such as email addresses and my genealogy information? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Hi all My sis in law uses facebook and for reasons unknown the bookmarked page starts to load but seems to get stuck She has Windows 7 64 bit which I don't have so an not conversant with its workings I have deleted the bookmarked link, cleared temp internet files and cookies, then logged her in with a new page (which loads all the way as it should) then bookmarked that page But closing the open window, then trying to open that bookmarked link brings up the same half loaded page One thing I did not try was to clear the browser history, could that be the problem ? Or something else entirely ? This is a DELL laptop of a few months old Nivard Ovington in Cornwall (UK)

Hi Joan, I have used OpenOffice for ever, on Linux, and on windows XP. The application is very reliable. I did once see the problem you describe. The user was closing down with documents still open. Could you give me more information... What operating system do you have? Where are you storing the files? What version of Open Office do you have? I'm guessing your files are spreadsheets? Joan, I have used it very briefly. It was said to work with Word but found out after I installed it that I couldn't open my word files so I soon went back to just Word. Hi Sue, Before you reformat, it would be best to discover the cause of the problem. The most likely cause is that the flash drive is faulty. First, I would try the flash drive in another pc. That will at least prove the condition of the flash drive, either way. If a another pc cannot read it, then either try formatting it fat32 or return it to where you bought it. If the flash drive proves to be good in another pc, here are a few thing to check... 1. Scan for a virus. There are a few around that will cause this problem. 2. Do you know that you have usb2? If you have usb1.1, it may work with some flash drives and not with others. 3. Check the usb drivers are ok. Try reinstalling your usb drivers. 4. The extended fat driver. The exfat format was introduced in Vista. Microsoft supplied an exfat driver for XP. I think it came in sp2 and sp3. There were a few complaints, that after sp3, the exfat driver in XP sometimes caused problems when reading/ writing fat32 drives. The symptoms were the same as yours. There are many other possibilities. Les Hardy Les, and others, Microsoft Windows XPHome edition, compaq lap top, version 2002. Flash drive is Dane-Elec 4 GB. Is that enough information ? So is my flash drive useless ? Should I re-formatt it ? Should I get another brand flash drive. This is the second Dane I have and no problem with the first, smaller size. I can get the information again, it is my genealogy. Tthis was to be a back up file. Maybe I should store everything on "Drop Box" Thanks to all, Sue *On Fri 02/10/12 10:48 AM , Les Hardy [email protected] sent: * Hi Sue, I would guess the problem was not caused by you. Hi Sue, I hope you have a backup of what you put on your USB drive. As David said, you need to "eject" the drive before you remove it from your computer. The reason is that this will inure that all data has been properly written to the USB drive. Unfortunately, now, you need to take some relatively " technical" action to retrieve the data. See here for an example... http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20090711024237AAn1D6s Regards, Kevin. Hi list, Can anyone help me? I got a new flash drive 4 GB. I have been adding genealogy to it. Tonight I plug it in to access some information and it tells me "it has not been formatted." I cannot get past that. If it needed to be formatted why was I not told this when I first plugged it in ? It is the same computer. Sue
Sounds like you removed it while it was still in use. You need to right click the "Safe To Remove" icon and the select the proper device, and then select remove. When it is safe to remove, then you will be told so. You may have just lost all of your data, but do NOT format it. Try again to see if it will work. I have an Acer 5552 Laptop with 3GB RAM (2.74 useable), Windows 7, 64 bit. Response time are getting slower and slower for everything - websites, installed programmes, files etc. For example, I have just tried to print a 1 page Word document - the first time it tried and failed, the second time it took about 6 minutes from the time I first clicked on print to getting the page from the printer. Another example is 25 seconds to open Outlook. This is not a Windows start up problem. Can anyone tell me how I should approach solving this problem. David
Hi David, Have you cleaned out all temporary files using CCleaner (or similar) ? Does your C: drive have enough Free Space? Assuming your Operating System (Win XP, Win 7, etc.) is on the C: Drive, running out of space will grind Windows to a halt pretty quickly ! (Believe me, I've done it !!!) You can try scanning your system files to see if any are corrupted... http://windows.about.com/od/maintainandfix/ss/scansystemfiles.htm Limit the number of programs starting up when you boot up MS Windows... http://windows.about.com/od/customizingwindows/ss/start_programs.htm After you have addressed all of the above, you can try to Defragment your Hard Drive http://windows.about.com/od/maintainandfix/ss/defragment.htm Also...
