    3. Nivard In 2006 my wife and I were given an Epson Perfection 4490 as a wedding present by a relative who was heavily into digital photography. I know that it cost over £200 at the time but it beat all the other scanners I have ever used hands down. We used it to scan all our old photos, slides and negatives going back to the 1940s. I have also used it successfully to scan photos from the late 1800s. It comes with software which enables you to use either standard settings or make all the settings yourself. It will scan at very high resolutions if you want and it will split into individual images when you scan more than one item at a time. That saves a lot of effort and each image is at the full resolution you have set. I am delighted with it and have no reason to change it. I imagine this scanner is no longer available to buy but its replacement(s) will no doubt be better and cheaper. IMHO it's best to pay for quality if you have serious work to do. I also used a high street camera shop for some slides and negatives and they were efficient and inexpensive but when I got the scanner I found it did a better job. The shop charged £10 for 100 items: £200 would therefore pay for 2000. I have done many more than that so the scanner has easily paid for itself. Regards Tony

    2. Beth Bowling
    3. Hi Nivard, This is the fastest scanner I have ever used, at least three times as fast as the 4490....it does have adapters for a couple of different negative sizes, and if you will go on the Epson mailing list, there was a discussion on how to scan other size negatives. And there is an adapter for 35mm slides....and for some other size that I do not have media that size. I believe that I ordered one different size adapter for some of my slides from Epson, at a very modest price. When I bought this from Epson I talked to their salesman and he was so helpful and answered all my questions. I would have bought the V700...a step up, but it is a much higher price and I couldn't justify the higher cost at that time. The V600 has been a real blessing for my needs....especially since it is much faster. I have done about 5000 slides with this scanner....in about a third the time that I did another 5000 with other scanners. Hope you can find a scanner that suits your needs. I have really enjoyed seeing my slides "come alive" and relive the wonderful times we had when I took those images. Beth <snip> Hi Beth Thanks for your reply I see this scanner is still available and it looks as if it comes with some adapters for scanning negatives Will this scan all varieties of negatives do you know?
