Bruce: This situation on the spelling is worse that you describe ! I have land deeds where the name is spelled differently within the SAME deed ! Most of these deeds were written or copied by a court recorder (error source), and then copied again (if you got the document from a book). The WPA did a lot of copying of documents, so that's a third time. Now you have error on top of error. You need to do your research with ALL variant spelling possibilities in mind, always. Approach it as though there is no right or wrong, for there may not really be !
