Dear friends: We have just joined this list to research our Compton tree, so Hello and greetings. My ggrandfather, Andrew J.Compton was a Presbyterian minister who came from Ohio to California around 1855 and had assignments all over the state.We have pretty good data on two of his sons, Charles S. C. and Frank C. who worked as engineers in Paradise, Butte County, but can't get much info on my grandfather, James E. Compton. My wife, Mary, is out in Butte County and Sacramento right now trying to fill in some of the gaps, and the Presbyterian archives in Philadelphia will no doubt come through on the events of his career. Are there any Ohio people on this list who might help us figure the best way to get to Andrew's parents and granparents? He was born in 1834, but I don't know the county. At some point, he married Amelia Harris (b. Penn.) and I might find a way to locate a useful marriage certificate. The best thing would be to find that one of you already have an Andrew J.
