It has been brought to my attention that on p. 106 of Comptonology, it is JAMES instead of John. Sorry about my mistake. It is James I was writing about. Thanks to everyone who wrote. It was appreciated!! I was under the impression that James Compton and family moved to Russell Co, VA around 1808. Is it possible he appeared in the Guilford Co Court in Oct. 1818, or was it by a letter/affidavit, etc? I am trying to sort out two James Comptons with Guilford Co, NC connections--the James Compton on p. 106 and the James I found on the internet--the in- formation below. A James Compton, 45 & over, was enumerated in the 1820 Guilford Co. Census with wife, 4 girls and 1 boy. I found the following at North Carolina US GenWeb Archives- Military-Pension Roll, 1835: NC Pension Roll of 1835 James Compton Guilford Co Private Maryland Cont'l Line $96.00 Annual allowance $1,170.06 Amt. received May 21, 1819 pension started Age 81 Died Sept. 5, 1831 Any comments on this will be welcomed.
