We have been able to get Pinckney D. death certificate and his Civil War record. We do not know if Lewis was born in Christian County or why the family was split up in Adair County. Any help or clues of where to look next Lewis or Joseph will be appreciated. I have information that goes further back but this sounds similar to what you are looking for. James R. Compton born about 1814 in Adiar County, Ky. and died about 1894 in Metcalfe Co........ Ky. He married (1) Sarah (Sally) Mills, August 20, 1839 in Adair County, Ky. (Information from marriage records) She was born Abt. 1818 in VA., and died Abt. 1864 in Adair County, Ky. He married (2) Mary (Polly) Tarter November 14, 1864 in Adair County, Ky. Sally Mills Compton and son, Henry both died of smallpox in 1864 when Henry was home on leave from the civil war. Children of James and Sarah: 1. Henry Compton, b. about 1840 2. Jasper Compton, b. about 1842 3. Peter Compton, b. about 1843 4. Riley Compton (my ancestor), born about 1845 5. Gwinn Compton, b. about 1846 6. Achilles Killis Compton, b. about 1848 7. Lewis Compton b. about 1850 8. Leonard Compton, b. about 1852 9. Mary J. Compton, b. about 1855 10. Caleb Compton b. about 1856 11. Warren Compton, b. about 1856 My records show that their were children born to the second marriage, but children were unknown.
