Hi Marsha: This is a long shot, but I would highly advise you to be on the lookout (research directivity) for the COMPTONS who were members of the Quaker meetings who moved to Ohio from South Carolina prior to the War Between the States. These people were vehemently opposed to the notion of slavery and left South Carolina in great numbers...actually closing their places of worship (meeting places as they called them) and finding a more suitable environment to their beliefs. Ohio was a target destination, especially Miami. The Quakers were by and large, well educated and meticulous keepers of records, which will help you tremendously in your search. I suggest you "get shoulder deep" in this possibility until you rule it out . The names you submitted look vaguely familiar to me in reference to past looks at this group of COMPTONS from South Carolina (especially Scintha Ann Compton; this name sticks). The Quaker COMPTONS have always kept my interest as I can NOT seem to track my COMPTON line any further back in history than about 1840. My ancestors did NOT own slaves during this time and later which has always made me suspicious of a highly religious heritage (Quaker?) preventing them from doing so. Please, (1)stay in touch and (2)let us know what you find and (3)where you look from here. GOOD LUCK ! Charlie Charles S.
