I have traced my ggg-grandfather, Larkin COMPTON, from Orange Co, Indiana, to Guilford Co, NC, where he married Becky Andrew 4 Nov 1818. Larkin is in the 1820 Guilford Co, NC Census, and has gone to Indiana by 1830. I do not believe Larkin is from Guilford Co., nor do I think he is connected with Aquilla Compton's branch in Orange Co, NC. I am inclined to think he is from South Carolina. There are other Compton marriages in Guilford Co. around the same time Larkin and Becky married, and I think the following names may tie in with him. 1. Fanney Compton & John GRISSOM, m. 11 Sept 1819. 2. Elizabeth "Betsey" Compton & Tilmon STORY, m. 3 Feb 1817. Have land records, deed records & probate records from Orange Co, IN, that tie Tilmon Story and Larkin Compton together. Larkin was made guardian of Tilmon Story's children in 1836. 3. James Compton & Mary WHITT, m. 18 Feb 1825. In the 1850 Guilford Co, Census, the Southern Division, there is a John CRUMPTON, 56, laborer, b. SC, and Mary CRUMPTON, 63, b. Guilford Co, NC.
