Hello; This is my response; I am still searching for the parents of Lewis Compton, b. 1840, d. 1898 m. Mary Susan Turner abt 1858. All of the census records say he was born in Kentucky. His brother Pinckney D. Compton, b. 12 June 1844 Christian County Kentucky, d. 12 August 1920 in Russell County Kentucky, on his death certificate his parents are listed as William Compton and Sally Mills. They also have a brother Joseph R. Compton, b. abt 1845. These three brothers where living in different households in the 1850 census in Adair County except for my g-grandfather Lewis who was in Cumberland County Kentucky. There are probably other siblings that we do not know of, there is a Mary Jane Compton in Adair County in 1850 but we have not connect her. My Dad remembers one of Lewis sisters visiting when he was young. He also remembers being told something happened and the family had to be split up. We have been able to get Pinckney D. death certificate and his Civil War record. We do not know if Lewis was born in Christian County or why the family was split up in Adair County.
