    2. --part1_31.13b9572.25d956a3_boundary Content-Type: text/plain; charset="US-ASCII" Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit << Hi Cliff- Many years ago I copied several pages from a book called History of Warren County regarding my Cronkhite ancestors only I was never able to connect the Cronkhites to my Cronkhites until just recently. I have been unable to find the cover sheet for this copy so I don't know the author or the publisher or any of those things I should know. Toward the back of this section of copying is a section called biographical Sketches: Steuben Township - Warren County. In working with my Cronkhites I came upon a page 181 with the following item. "MARSHALL COMPTON was born in Ross County, Ohio, March 4, 1811, and is the fourth of the six boys born to John and Catherine (Davis) Compton, their names being -- John, William (deceased), Garret (deceased), Marshall, Nelson and Jackson. The father of Marshall was a soldier of 1812, and was badly wounded in that war, after which he devoted his life to farming. While our subject was a boy, he went to Pike County, Ohio, to learn the blacksmithing trade, at which he served six years, and afterward worked for fourteen years. In October, 1846, he came to this township, and purchased his present place. December 18, 1859, he was married to Nancy J. Nelson, which union gave issue to three children--Alice, Charles and Jesse (deceased). Mr. Compton's residence is two miles north of Marshfield, on his farm of 346 acres (20 of which, in timber, are four miles south, with 40 in Pike Township). All except the timber are under good cultivation and improvement, and are well adapted to corn, wheat, oats, and hay. He also raises horses, cattle and Berkshire hogs. Mr. Compton has a fine frame dwelling and observatory, which affords a charming view of the country. He is a Freemason; was Trustee of Kent Township several terms, and has held other minor offices." In another area of my copying from the same book I found the following: "Nine of Rev. Joh Foster 1st's granddaughters married and came here with their husbands. Later came the children of Sarah Foster Mather and three of the sons of William and nancy Foster Morgan. """A brother, Zebulon, came in 1833 and settled on 400 acres in Pike Twp. His sister, Asenath Foster Compton, lived near him and both are buried at Redwood Cemetery in Steuben Twp.""" Thinking Asenath might be a daughter I looked in my Cronkhite copies of Waren County, Indiana Cemetery Inscriptions and in volume II on page 70 found the following: Compton, Nancy J., w/o Marshall 3/29/1834 - 10/02/1901 Compton, Marshall d. 3/09/1893 82y 5d Compton, Wm. R. d. 9/01/1877 32y 8m 10d Compton, Asenath, w/o Marshall d. 3/16/1850 33y 9m 11d Compton, Henry C., s/o A and M d. 4/04/1850 24d Nelson, Mary E. d. 5/27/1868 14y 11m 14d Nelson, Maggie A., d/o J and NJ d. 1/04/1871 14y 8m Compton, Jesse H., s/o M and NJ d. 9/03/1871 4y 10m 13d The Wm. R. is my GGGrandfather. This is the correct age and date of death for him. The William in the above article was older than Marshall so I want to believe that Marshall is therefore my GGGGrandfather. I have no other proof. The two Nelson children are apparently Nancy's Children from a prior marriage. I hope this is of some help to you. Oh - The children from Marshall and Asenath Foster's marriage were Alice C, Seth Clark, John, Mary, Frank, William and Henry C. Alice C was a male.
