The arrived in Davidson Co., TN by early 1800s. I am sending this to the COMPTON List to see if anyone has a lead for you. I believe that my Comptons came to KY from VA originally....especially some of the William Comptons. Good luck in your search. My great grandfather was James Newton COMPTON born 4/7/1869 in Adair or possibly Edmonson Co., KY m Edmonia COOMER b 1/26/1873 m 8/20/1889.He had two brothers, Lee & George Henry. Their father supposedly died young & was legally named "Billy" COMPTON, some claim "Bill", others "William". Our family oral history says his wife was a BRAGG, Sarah or Lysia something similar, "Billy" supposedly died when James Newton was very young. I am trying to obtain as much info on all Williams that I can to try to identify or eliminate various ones. I would love to have any information on these Williams especially as Nashville, TN is so close to Adair Co., KY. Any info or name connections would be helpful.
