Clark, My dad started doing research on the family in 1930. He continued to do it and pass his work on to the family until he died in 1989. This is what I have. William Compton I, b. England, d. Virginia..emigrated with Lord Baltimore.settled in Virginia. William Compton, II m______. b. VA There many children , among whom was: William Compton III m.______. there were three children: William Compton IV m. Susan Mullen..He was b. 25 Dec 1760; she was b. 1776 and d. 1860. The William Compton who went to KY and then to Nashville in 1782 where he rented land from Capt. John Raines. ( this is the William who is a brother who is a brother to my Henry Compton I. Julianna Compton m. John Cartwright Henry Compton I m. Sarah Cox dau. of Thomas and Rebecca Cox. HenryI was b. 5/1/1784 at Boone Station, Fayet Fayette Co., KY. m.17 Dec 1815 Nashville, TN. 1806 moved to Davidson Co., TN; settled on 325 acres adn built a log house. War of 1812 with Andrew Jackson. Member of the Masonic Order, "He was a devoted adherent of the Christian church, was charitable to the poor and enjoyed the esteem and confidence of a large circle of friends." There were six children and I think you have these. One was Alvira Searcy who m. Thomas Goodman. When my daddy was a little boy, about 5 yrs. old he would visit with "Aunt Sarah Compton Lockett. (She was a grandaughter of Henry and Sarah Cox Compton and was the daug. of their son Philip N. Compton. Anyway, that is where he would stay while his mother went shopping downtown. Aunt Sarah had a large home on the Square. Hope some of this helps. The transcript lists marriages, births, deaths, etc. for all of Henry Sr. children. I believe I mentioned to you that I now believe that Henry Sr. and William (whom I am researching) were brothers and that their parents may have been William and Charity Lieper/Leiper Compton.
