Hi Folks, its been a while since Ive had a chance to do a count of our membership. As of today we have 83 members on the "L" list and 21 on the "D". Our correspondence has been slow - lets get those cards and letters going. If you havent had responses to original inquiries - remind us again who you are researching. I spent part of spring break in Nashville at the TN archives and Nashville public library. If you have Comptons that came through TN these are great resources. Found a great deal of information, not only from TN but AL as well and as usual came up with almost as many questions as answers. My research is on William Compton of VA (1767)and TN (1782?- 1846) - If anyone on the list is interested in this branch, let me know - I have considerable info on descendants - none to speak of yet on his parents. My father, Charles Arnold Compton, was born in Mingo Co, WVAA. His father, William Wesley, was born in Boyd Co, either Ky or WVA. His father, Joseph, was born in either Ohio or Kentucky. They traveled the Monongohelia River(I think my spelling is right?) from probably Pa. My grandfather was in well drilling (water mostly) and my father was in gas measurements.I have them on the census for 1910 in Mingo Co WVA,Hardee area and my grandmother, who was a Maynard, was a young girl of 12 living with a James H. Compton. Her mom and dad had divorced after the 1900 census. I hope that you have something that I can use - I have hit a blank wall because my grandparents moved a lot and always rented. Thanks for answering, Polly

Dear friends: We have just joined this list to research our Compton tree, so Hello and greetings. My ggrandfather, Andrew J.Compton was a Presbyterian minister who came from Ohio to California around 1855 and had assignments all over the state. We have pretty good data on two of his sons, Charles S. C. and Frank C. who worked as engineers in Paradise, Butte County, but can't get much info on my grandfather, James E. Compton. My wife, Mary, is out in Butte County and Sacramento right now trying to fill in some of the gaps, and the Presbyterian archives in Philadelphia will no doubt come through on the events of his career. Are there any Ohio people on this list who might help us figure the best way to get to Andrew's parents and granparents? He was born in 1834, but I don't know the county. At some point, he married Amelia Harris (b. Penn.) and I might find a way to locate a useful marriage certificate. The best thing would be to find that one of you already have an Andrew J. Compton as a child on your own family tree and want to know what became of him. Best to all, Boyd Compton, NY NY

Hello! I am searching for parents of Charlie Benjamin COMPTON who married Fannie CHAFFIN some time after 1905. I know that Fannie was born in Halifax, but I'm not sure about Charlie. Family stories say that they went to North Carolina to get married, but they lived near Scottsburg, VA in Halifax County. Does anybody have any clues? Thanks, Angela
