I have not been able to find a Henderson COMPTON, but did find Herndon (Horndon) COMPTON in 1870 Census, Sandy, Lawrence Co. KY. COMPTON, Herndon (Horndon), age 50, b. Co.,KY working as a servant in the Green LACKEY household, but have not located the rest of the family in the 1880 census. Dear Clark, I have a list of children of William and there is a son, William. He married Martha Ferrell in Wilson County. I don't have a date for the marriage but I have his birth date as 1815 and Martha's as 1813. My Nancy Compton and Joel Echols are in the 1850 census in Hamilton County, IL with 7 children. All of the children but one were born in TN. The one born in IL was one year old. Nancy and Joel both died in Hamilton County, IL, so my Nancy did not go to TX. Their son (my great grandfather) did go to Erath County, TX. I am also looking for the family of Judith Compton that married John Echols in 1806 in TN. I don't have a county on this. I am from the John Compton of Maryland, 1630ca-1718, immigrant. His wife was Mary Clark. I have quite a good bit on him. Some seem to think he might descend from a John and wife Susannah of Mass. but I have spent hundreds of hours in both the Hall of Records/Archives of Annapolis and the Historical Society Libr. in Baltimore and never seen anything that could tie the families together. He was promoted from Corporal to Sergeant on 9 Dec 1861 and was discharged on a surgeon's certificate of disability. According to service papers, he was severely wounded in the left thigh at the Battle of Stone's River (Murphreesboro). By his own description in his Pension application, he was carried to the rear after being shot and when the battle moved close to his position, managed to get himself into a ditch but sustained injuries to his right arm in the process. He spent some time in the hospital and was discharged for an unrelated heart problem. Papers describe him as 6'-1" tall, 175 pounds, with light hair and complexion and blue eyes. He suffered a stroke or heart attack on 15 Apr 1921 and was confined to bed thereafter. He appears to have spent the last days of his life in the care of his son, William T.
