Jeanne, I have a Joseph born in 1844, who's father was Joseph Douglas Compton. I don't know where young Joseph was born, but his father JD was born on Sept. 16, 1809. Eventually, his son James Duncan was in Indiana, as he is my ggrandfather. Same line, perhaps? Wouldn't that be nice?? Let me know if this is of any help as I'm more than willing to share! Jeanne and Sharon: I found a website at http://home.att.net/~amickey/ that lists the children of Baner/Banner and one child (Bethel) of Ebenezer (b. 1772/3 pos. NJ) who were sons of William and Rachel Compton. You might want to check out this page. I have not been able to verify or disprove. In a message on this list sent by Don Raney 3/1/99 he lists ten of the same children for Banner. Another message sent by John Compton 1/15/99 shows two Ebenezers listed in the 1790 Census, Rockingham Co., NC, one apparently married, the other not. His website is http://members.xoom.com/desotojohn/index.htm My interest is in Baner/Banner. I think his daughter Polly(Mary) married George Washington Wilson in 1827 in Adair County, KY, but have not been able to prove the connection. Would be glad to exchange what information I have found. Nancy
To the List: I saw this on a list of the 1878 Yellow Fever epidemic victims in Holly Springs, Miss. COMPTON, Wm., Dr., 1878 COMPTON, Mrs. Liz
John; Thanks for your response, we are trying the same shotgun approach for my line. I am stuck at my g-grandfather Lewis Compton , b.1840 in KY?. Information I have has two brothers and a sister, one of the brothers Pinckney D. Compton, b. 12 June 1844, in KY. has a death certificate that lists his father as William Compton and mother as Sally Mills. P.D. Compton was in Adair County in the 1850 census living with Jno. Walbert from N.C. and in Cumberland County in 1860 living with my g-grandfather Lewis Compton. P.D. died in Russrll County. We were looking at Ebenezer because he was in Adair Co in 1820 then was in Russell County, this is the same as P.D. They had a brother Joseph Compton living with Scott Thompson in 1850 census of Adair County, he was living with Lewis mother-in-law in the 1870 census of Cumberland County, we have not been able to locate this brother. Thanks Jeanne

I would love to exchange any information with you. I was excited to see the birth and death dates on Ebenezer and the other information you had on him. Sharon

Does anyone have info on David & Lucretia Compton who were living in Macedon, Wayne Co, NY when they sold land Aug 1833? Who were their children? Did they have a daughter Mariah b 1804 Vermont who married John Ford Packard about 1830. Mariah was John's second wife. They relocated to Lenawee Co, MI where John died 1849. Did Mariah die during 1850's or did she remarry? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks - Merrily Lawson

Almost daily I see someone asking for address to some court house on almost every list I belong to, thus I am sending this to many of the various lists to help my fellow researchers, especially those very recent to this compulsive hobby. I have been doing research for over 40 years and I found long ago that the best book to have is The Handy Book for Genealogists published by The Everton Publishers, PO Box 368, Logan, Utah 84321 This book is in 8th edition and I have upgraded each time they put one out as they give more up to date info. It has every state, every county and every court house address and phone number, with date each county was formed, parent county or territory from which created, and just what records are found there and if court house was burned, etc. I am mentioning this as I could NOT live without mine and help folks all the time. This book costs about $20-haven't gotten a new one since 1991 and due for one. I am NOT a mormon, have no connection to any of their organizations or to the publishers. I am just telling you to get one and you would not have to ask for such things and it is well worth having on your own shelf and be independent. As I said I could not get along without it. Sarah

Thomas Hazelrigg married Ann Compton James Hazelrigg was born to them about 1663 in Northumberland, Virginia and died in 1713. James married a girl named Anne ? and had two known sons, Samuel Hazelrigg and Richard Hazelrigg. Does anyone know the parents of either Thomas Hazelrigg, Ann Compton, or the maiden name and parents of Anne who married James Hazelrigg? Please email DF4pepper@aol.com Thanks.
Dear Sarah, I'd love to work with you--it seems you had a real reason to do this work and have a very good knowledge of the family. Thanks for sharing. I have worked on the Dent and Wilkinson lines a bit, mainly what I've found in books in the Libraries. If you want any of the lineage from Zachariah I will send them to you. Just let me know. I would like a copy of John's immigration record. Somehow with all the interest in this "guy" he will be found to have had parents and roots in England. I have info from there IF I can get to the correct place! Thanks, Catherine
Catherine I'll bet you are further back than most of us with our Compton research. I have no data from prior to the mid 1700's. Are you referencing a book on 17th century Compton's, or is this original research? We could all benefit from your knowledge.
