While at Mt. View Cemetery in Oakland, Alameda Co., Calif., I saw a headstone for Kenneth H. Compton and took a couple of pictures of it. It does not say where he was from but does give his birth and death dates as follows: Birth Oct. 13, 1839; Death Oct. 31, 1902. If there is anyone on the list who has a connection to him and would like these pictures, please e-mail me privately. Susan Clark (Pleasant Hill, Calif) ancestor@jps.net
Hello! I'm just beginning the research for my Compton line and wonder if any of what I have might sound familiar to anyone. My Great Grandfather was Levi Louis Compton. He was born in July of 1857 in Pennsyvania (possibly Hawley). I don't have the names of his parents, but his father was born in New Jersey and his mother was born in Pennsylvania. Levi was a carpenter by trade. He married Mary Ann Lewis in about 1889. I don't have the names of her parents, but her father was born in Wisconsin and her mother was born in either Canada or England. They had 16 children-Laura Bell (b. July 1, 1890 in Chicago, IL); John Russell (b. April 19, 1892 in Chicago); Bert Louis (b. Jan 27, 1892 in Chicago); Robert Ellsworth (b. Oct. 2, 1896 in Chicago); Dorothy (b. June 1898 in Chicago); Ella Mae (born April 1900 in WI -probably Neenah); George (b. April 27, 1906); Mildred Pearl (b. December 23, 1910 in Neenah, WI); Clara, Ethel. Florence, Helen, Henry, Lillian, Violet, and William. I have no birth information on the last 8. If anyone can make a connection or offer any help, please e-mail me at tldpjd@chibardun.net Thank you! Terri in Rice Lake, WI
Benchmark Genetics has informed that my DNA ( polymorphic chromosome Y DNA) matches (is identical) with sample from: James M. Crumpton 6693 Stonetrace Drive Bartlett, TN 38135-3053 According to geneticists, this biologically proves James M. Crumpton and I have the same Crumpton ancestor, somewhere along the line. I do not know him, but will write him today. Some of you may be related to him. If so, you are kin to me!!! Cheers. Dan Crumpton email gen@Thomson.net

Dear friends: Can anyone help us follow up a reference we found to Jacob Compton leaving Hopewell NJ in 1793 with 200 others from Hunterdon County on a trip over the Cumberland Gap to Tennessee and, eventually, the Scioto r. valley in Ohio. Our citation mentioned page 70 of "Comptonology". What is that? Are there other books or articles describing that trip? Was it connected in any way with the Scioto Company? Jacob was married to Orriminah Hyde, and we have been able to trace her through her father, John Hide. But we don't know Jacob's antecedents. We would relish knowing more about our Comptons in NJ.
